The main antagonist of the epic lore ofOne Piece, Saint Nerona Imu, or as he is popularly known, Imu-sama, has been the biggest mystery in the series. From his introduction in the Reverie arc to his actions in the Egghead Island arc, almost every aspect of his character is hidden by Eiichiro Oda, and fans speculate that it is going to be the biggest twist inOne Piece.

Imu

WhileOne Piecefans wait for Imu’s official introduction in the series, they have tried to disclose different elements of his identity through multiple theories and assumptions. One such theory hints at Imu’s Devil Fruit abilities and how he manages to distribute them to his subordinates and make them powerful enough to be his soldiers inOne Piece.

However, if this theory turns out to be true, it will confirm that Imu once lost to Joy Boy before the Void Century, which led to the current turn of events in the series. It will make up for a great backstory of a dangerous and powerful antagonist like Imu inOne Piece.

“Loki was there when he died”: Loki Is Not the Villain We All Thought, Luffy’s Team-up With Loki Makes Sense in This One Piece Theory

Imu’s Devil Fruit theory explains his abilities

Since Imu and the Five Elders have been introduced together in the series, it has been speculated that the mysterious supreme leader is the person responsible for the Five Elders’ yokai abilities. Not only that, it was also speculated that Imu was responsible for their immortality and their other uncanny abilities that have not been seen inOne Piecebefore.

“Loki was there when he died”: Loki Is Not the Villain We All Thought, Luffy’s Team-up With Loki Makes Sense in This One Piece Theory

This speculation arose from the fact that Imu was able to take back all the powers he granted to Saturn after his failure in Egghead Island. Saturn was a member of the Five Elders for centuries, and he even witnessed Joy Boy himself. Which proved that he was indeed immortal, but it was not the result of the Ope Ope no Mi.

These speculations were fanned even more when the God Knights, Shamrock, and Gunko revealed their powers in Elbaph. Gunko had the power of Aro Aro no Mi, which looked exactly like Imu’s ability that he used to stab Cobra when Sabo was trying to save him. This was proof that Imu could use multiple Devil Fruits at once and transfer these abilities to his subordinates.

Imu Stabbing Cobra

These speculations about Imu’s use of multiple Devil Fruits also hint that Imu mightpossess the power of the Sea Devil. This is because, in theOne Piecelore, it is believed that all the Devil Fruits are incarnations of the Sea Devil (according to Shanks).

Joy Boy might have defeated Imu before the Void Century

If the above-mentioned theories turn out to be true and Imu is indeed the reincarnation of the Sea Devil, then he must have acquired this power somehow just like Joy Boy did with Sun God Nika’s powers. This also proves that the Sea Devil is an ancient deity just like the Sun God Nika as mentioned by Jarul.

InOne Piecechapter 1136, Jarul revealed that Nika was present when the world was destroyed before the Void Century, and he most likely fought someone. This someone could be the Sea Devil, who then got reincarnated into a Devil Fruit, which was eaten by Imu during the Void Century, making him the representation of the Sea Devil.

On the other side,Joy Boy ate the Nika fruitand achieved the powers of Sun God Nika but was unable to take down Imu and the World Government. Thus, it is safe to say that although the Sun God was able to take down the Sea God once, he failed the second time. And now it all lands on Luffy to do what Joy Boy was incapable of inOne Piece.
