Eiichiro Oda’sOne Piecehas gone through a lot of changes recently. With the beginning of the final saga, the series has started a new narrative that will most likely affect it in a major way. The biggest change in recent times, however, is the fall of the former Emperors of the Sea, which fans got to see during the Wano arc.
Luffy, Law, and Eustass Kid took it upon themselves to bring a new era to the pirate world by defeating Yonko Kaido and Big Mom. Although they succeeded in their mission, this might not be an entirely good thing for the future ofOne Piece,especially for the Elbaf arc.
The Elbaf arc holds a lot of importance, as many major elements of the upcoming storyline have been foreshadowed inOne Piecefor the longest time. And one of them was its connection to Big Mom, which as of now cannot be explored because of her defeat in Wano.
Big Mom’s Connection To Elbaf Arc
AsOne Piecefans know, Big Mom’s journey was greatly affected by the events that took place in Elbaf during her childhood. She was abandoned by her parents in Elbaf, where Mother Carmel took her in and cared for her like her own daughter. Mother Carmel was probably one of the only characters who accepted Big Mom despite the destruction she caused.

This caused Big Mom to idolize her greatly. In fact, Big Mom’s dream to build a utopia where all the world’s races can live together also came from Mother Carmel and her teachings. However,things changed drasticallyduring the Winter Solstice festival, when she attacked a bunch of giants because of her hunger.
Her actions in Elbaf made her one of the biggest enemies of the giant’s island, and she was forced to leave it and never return. But still, she was often seen reminiscing about her childhood in Elbaf. Even Oda highlighted it multiple times, giving fans a hint that her connection with the island might potentially be explored even further.
Big Mom’s Inclusion in Wano Might Have Ruined Elbaf Arc
After giving so many hints about Big Mom’s connection to Elbaf,Eiichiro Odafumbled it all by making her a major antagonist in Wano. The Onigashima battle could have solely focused on the members of the Worst Generation going all out against Kaido and defeating him. But including Big Mom in it made it longer and even divided fans’ attention.
Although Big Mom’s defeat was bound to happen, Oda could have used her to make Elbaf more intriguing for the fans.
Fans would have gotten a chance to see Luffy fighting Big Mom and earning the fame of defeating two Emperors of the Sea. This would have givenBig Mom’s character a more deserving endingthan the one she got in Wano.

Nevertheless, there is still a possibility of Oda bringing her back in the upcoming arc and using her link to enhance the plot.One Piecefans will have to wait for the Elbaf arc to begin to find out what Oda has planned for the second phase of the final saga.
