Malenia, Sword of Miquella is one of the toughest bosses to go against inElden Ring.Few players are able to win this fight solo, perhaps after several attempts. And, sometimes they simply ask for co-op support to make it happen.

However, some players build the ultimate loadout that secures their poise, making bosses feel like they’re the ones worthy of even facing that player. After all, some players journey throughElden Ringto become a boss themselves. One such Reddit user is a prime example of that.
No dodging, only parrying and buffing up
To against Malenia, Sword of Miquella, and defeat her without even dodging? Now that’s no easy feat. However, Redditor Reason7322 has shown ushow it’s done, and the player simply parried and attacked their way through the entire fight.
The Level 150 character uses a couple of buffs, and keeps these items in the loadout:

The fight starts with the character applying the Golden Vow spell, buffing up attack and defense stats. It’s a neat trick for anyone who’s planning on going against a tough boss. Still, it’s how the player moves and holds their ground is what’s so fascinating.
Breaking Malenia’s posture has been key here; the player kept attacking aggressively, not taking no for an answer. And when the HP went down even a little, the Flask of Crimson Tears came to the rescue. Usually, players dodge/roll a lot during this fight, trying to quickly get away from Malenia’s deadly combos. But not this player.

The community has been respectfully applauding the players on how brutally they went against the boss fight. Undoubtedly, manyElden Ringplayers will find inspiration in this build and put some faith in the fact that soloing a boss fight like this is, after all, possible.
What makes Malenia such a tough boss fight in Elden Ring?
To begin with, Malenia has two phases. The first one feels a bit more grounded (even though she leaps and dodges like there’s no tomorrow), and the attacks can be somewhat calculated. However, her slashes and slices can feel truly random at many points, making it extremely difficult to trust your own stance against her.
What adds to this is how quickly she maneuvers from one point to another; making you doubt your moves even if it’s keeping a distance or trying to flank her from behind. However, things get much, much worse when the second phase happens.

Elden Ringhas a lot of passive damage like a poison effect that can drain your life. And, Scarlet Rot is one of them. Malenia’s origin story talks about how Scarlet Rot has been a part of her life in harmful ways, and the fight’s second phase is all about that. The AOE damage makes it even more challenging; you’re able to die almost instantaneously if you’re not careful.
Furthermore, her attacks evolve from sword slashes to almost supernatural-esque Demigod powers that aren’t for a mere Tarnished to handle.Elden Ringhas lots of this, and Malenia is a good example of how poor timing can utterly destroy you.
