In the original Oblivion, leveling up was quite a convoluted process. Thankfully, inThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, this process has been massively streamlined.
Naturally, leveling up is a massively important feature that will need to be understood if you want to progress smoothly into the endgame.

Oblivion Remastered: 10 Biggest Improvements On The Original
Oblivion Remastered sets a new standard for those who seek to follow in their footsteps.
As you level up your character and gain more experience, the world will level up around you. If you don’t allocate your experience properly, you’ll soon come to realize that you’re getting pummeled by everything around you.

This guide will not only focus on how to level up your character, but how to gain experience in each skill and prepare for leveled rewards a little way down the line.
Major and Minor Skills
At the beginning of the game, you will get to pick your major skills, either by selecting a pre-built class or by creating your own.
These major skills will largely define your character and how you decide to play the game. In the remaster, you will now get character experience from your minor skills as well, but it will be less than the XP that you obtain from leveling Major Skills.

Try not to get too much experience in skills that you don’t plan on using much in the future, because as your character levels up, you will start seeing new enemieswith a lot more health and damage potential. If you haven’t focused on a combat style, you will soon find yourself being swamped by Dremora and Elemental Atronachs.
Every time you hit a certain level bracket, you will earn a new perk. The brackets are as follows:

Once you hit level 100 in a skill, you no longer gain XP.
Gaining Experience
Pretty much every time you perform an action in Oblivion Remastered, you’re going to get experience in something. Certain skills are a lot faster to level than others, but you should be aware of what you’re doing so as not to overlevel.
While the skills are separated into 3 different build types, that doesn’t mean you can’t mix and match. Create a custom class for your preferred play style.

Here is a list of all the skills and how to level up each one:
Description
Repair your equipment using repair hammers
Sprint as much as you’re able to, or swim through the water
Use Longswords and Claymores against your enemies
Use a shield to deflect your enemy’s attacks
Use weapons like Axes and Hammers against your enemies
Hand to Hand
Use your bare fists when fighting
Heavy Armour
Equip Heavy armour, and let your enemies hit you while wearing it
Use a pestle and mortar to mix potions. You can also eat ingredients.
Alteration
Cast Alteration spells as much as possible
Conjuration
Summon familiars with the spells according to your level
Destruction
Use destruction magic while fighting your enemies.
Cast Illusion magic on applicable NPCs
Cast spells like Detect Life on Self
Restoration
Cast healing spells or spells that increase stats like Magicka
Acrobatics
Jump as much as you may while exploring
Light Armor
Equip Light Armour, and let your enemies hit you while wearing it.
Use a Bow and Arrow while dealing with your enemies.
Mercantile
Make lots of high-value transactions with various merchants
Open as many locked doors and chests as you can find.
Sneak around NPCs without being seen and pickpocket without being caught.
Speechcraft
Play the speech minigame with the rotating dials and persuade NPCs.
Certain skills have exploits you may use to avoid training them for hours on end. For example, the sneak skill can be trained right at the beginning of the game by sneaking forward into a wall near an unsuspecting goblin.
Or athletics can be trained by endlessly swimming into a rock.Skills like Acrobatics and Athletics even have increased abilities past the level 100 mark.
Virtues & Attributes
Now to the actual leveling part. Once you have gained enough XP to level up your character, you will noticea little orange icon in the corner of the screen.Once you see this, the next step is to sleep.
Simply travel to any available bed, for example, in a house that you own, or even just a bedroll in a campsite, and you will be presented with the virtue screen.
Don’t worry about how long you sleep. Simply select 1 hour for a quick and easy level up.
The eight attributes you can allocate points to are as follows:
Effects the Blade, Blunt and Hand-to-Hand skills along with your maximum Carry Weight.
Intelligence
Increases maximum magicka.
Increases how fast your magicka restores, along with your maximum fatigue.
Effects your Marksman skill, ability with daggers and shortswords, as well as your ability to sneak.
Effects how fast you move.
Increases your maximum health and how fast it regenerates.
Personality
Influences the way NPCs interact with you and the prices in shops.
Slightly affects everything that you do in the game. Best when raised above level 50.
You will be given 12 virtue points to allocate however you wish, though not all are equal.you’re able to only select a maximum of 3 attributes to allocate points at a time, so, for example, 5+5+2, or however you see fit.
In addition, luck is more expensive than the others and costs 4 points rather than 1. So, if you choose to level up your luck, you will only be able to allocate 8 more points to 2 other attributes.
Oblivion Remastered: How To Beat The Arena
Become the Grand Champion of Cyrodiil!
While it’s important to level up all your attributes, some may be more important depending on what kind of build you are playing. attempt to always allocate the maximum of 12 virtues when you can.Once an attribute reaches 100, you can no longer level it up further.
Skill Books
If you’re really close to level 100, when skills start taking a pretty long time to train (90+), consider seeking out a skill training book to get a free level. These should really be left until the late game, as skills are extremely fast to level up at the start.
Skill books can be received as quest rewards, found in houses or found in dungeons scattered across the map. You may want to take note of the location of a skill book before actually picking it up or reading it.
As soon as the book is opened, you will be granted a level.Of course, once you reach level 100, the book will do nothing.
Be careful not to steal certain books while reading them. You are free to open a book that doesn’t belong to you, but you cannot take it without incurring a bounty.
If you find yourself swimming in money and either can’t be bothered training or don’t have the time, consider seeking out a trainer to level a skill for you.
There are many types of trainers scattered across Cyrodiil, and each has their own level. Each trainer will only be able to train you according to your level and their abilities.
If you’re struggling to find a viable trainer, simply follow the various guild questlines. For example, the Mage’s guilds and the Arcane University haveplenty of trainers in every major skill. In addition, they can recharge your weapons and sell you the spells you need to level up on your own.
Trainers can only train you 5 times per level.
Naturally, the higher level that you get,the more it will cost to level up. Luckily, money really isn’t that difficult to come by in Oblivion. Once you get to level 20+, you’ll start finding Ebony gear everywhere, which can be enchanted and soldfor a high price in the market district of the Imperial City.
Leveled Rewards
While it may be tempting to run through the world of Oblivion, completing every quest that you come across while not really thinking about the numbers, once you’ve played the game more than once, you’ll come to understand thatsome things are best left untouched.
Oblivion features leveled quest rewards. This means that what Character level you are depends on how strong the rewards are going to be. For example, a Chillrend Sword that you obtain right at the start of your adventurewon’t be as powerfulas a Chillrend that you obtain at Character level 25.
One of the main examples of this can be seen with the Mundane Ring that you obtain in the sewers from Raven Camoran’s body. This ring is best obtained atlevel 22, and paired with the Breton class, will make you completely invulnerable to spells. Pretty good, right?
This is the same with pretty much every singleDark Brotherhoodquest. They all give fantastic rewards, but realistically, you’ll have to wait until aroundlevel 30if you want the best version of this particular item.
Of course, all of this level planning isn’t totally essential, and you can quite happily run through the whole campaign without taking any of this into account.
But trust me, when you get to higher levels and the world turns evermore violent, you’ll want the best gear Cyrodiil has to offer. Not to mention if you’ve picked any difficulty past Adept. In that case, I can only wish you the best of luck.
