Actor Jonathan Majors was primed to be the biggest villain for the MCU’s Multiverse Saga and seemed on an upward trajectory in Hollywood. However, Majors’ rise to fame was cut short and marred with all sorts of negativity after the actor was accused, and later tried, in a domestic violence case.
During a talk show appearance, Majors revealed a piece of advice from his mother that had helped him navigate Hollywood. The advice appears all the more poignant for the actor after he was recently handed his sentencing in the domestic violence case after being found guilty. Jonathan Majors Reveals the Advice His Mom Gave Him Before Hollywood Success
In March 2023, it seemed like actorJonathan Majorswas ready to take over Hollywood. He was starring inAnt-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaandCreed III,which were released within a span of a month. During the same time, Majors appeared onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertand discussed his work on both films.
While speaking with Colbert, Majors addressed his habit of carrying around a cup with him, which he revealed resulted from advice given by his mother, who was a pastor.
“It means mind your cup. You’re a vessel. Nobody can fill you up. Nobody can pour you out. You do that yourself. Holding onto this cup is a reminder that even in this craziness that’s happening, my self-esteem is my self-esteem. No one can big me up as it were or tear me down.”

Majors made the above statement explaining the symbolism behind his habit of carrying a cup everywhere he went as a reminder of his mother’s words of wisdom. Majors was later found guilty in a domestic violence lawsuit filed by his ex-partnerGrace Jabbari. Following Majors’ legal issues, the advice from his mother seems even more poignant as the actor’s own actions were responsible for his fall from grace in the public eye.
Jonathan Majors Receives Sentencing in Domestic Violence Case
On July 10, 2025, the trial over the domestic assaultchargesagainst Jonathan Majors commenced with the actor pleading not guilty to misdemeanor assault and harassment charges. After a series of testimonies, the case saw its closing arguments delivered on August 06, 2025.
On June 27, 2025, the court finally reached averdictin the case and Majors was deemed guilty of one count of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and a charge of harassment as a violation. Majors’ sentencing was scheduled to take place in February 2024 but was delayed.
