Nintendohas confirmed the existence and purpose of the Switch 2’s mysterious C button, as it’s used with the GameChat feature, allowing players to communicate live for the first time via video on Nintendo hardware.

The C Button has confounded fans since it was first leaked, though many did suspect that it was connected to a chat feature. This made sense, considering that the Switch had some awkward additions for allowing chat options.

New Survey Reveals Gamers Are Hungry To Buy Nintendo Switch 2

A new survey has confirmed that gamers are extremely hungry to own a Nintendo Switch 2, despite the lack of information about the system.

It was revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on the Nintendo of America YouTube channel that the C Button is used with GameChat. This allows up to five people to communicate at once, with four screens at the bottom.

GameChat Brings Video Chat To Nintendo Switch 2

The C Button is used to bring up a GameChat-focused menu, where players can share their screen or cut the video/mic feed. Players don’t have to be playing the same games to do this. Those with kids can use Parental Controls to ensure that strangers can’t chat to them.

The voice chat itself is done with a built-in mic on the Nintendo Switch 2. Those who want to appear in the call can do so with the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which is set to launch alongside the console. Nintendo Switch Online is needed to use it, but players will be able to use it for free until March 2026.

GameChat is also compatible with the GameShare feature, which allows multiple people to share a copy of the same game, even if only one person owns it. This will launch with compatibility for several Nintendo Switch titles, like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, with Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility planned for the future.

The Nintendo consoles have needed robust communication options for years, and it’s great to see that the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally giving people what they want, even if the video feed in GameChat currently looks very rough.
