Square Enix held on February 2 a new live stream forNieR Re[in]carnationwhich also included some new tidbits onNieR Replicant Ver 1.22 :the game will include a new Weapon Story system. A familiar system forNieR Automatafans.
NieRcreative director Yoko Taro andNieRseries director Yosuke Saito confirmed on streamNieR Replicantwill include a new Weapon Story system. If you’re unfamiliar with it, here’s how Weapon Story or Weapon Stories work. As you gathered weapons, those weapons could be leveled up by using them in combat. Doing so would progressively unlock special stories focusing on the weapons. This is the Weapon Story system.
Yosuke Saito also statedNieR Replicant Ver 1.22includes a “mountain” of different Weapon Story parts.
The Weapon Story system is also present inNieR Re[in]carnation, the first mobile game of the series. Stay tuned as we’ll soon publish another article with new details onNieR Re[in]carnation.

Starting 21:00, Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro bring up Weapon Story and announce its implementation inNieR Replicant Ver 1.22.
On stream, Yoko Taro also explained the Weapon Story system, also called Weapon’s Memories, is something he regularly included in the games he directed. Most notably theDrakengardseries, orDrag-On Dragoonin Japan. When developing the firstDragon-On Dragoon, his producer asked him to make it more “RPG like”. So Yoko Taro did that by adding a lot of text through the Weapon Stories.NieR Replicanthowever, had a lot of quests, so Yoko Taro didn’t see the necessity of Weapon Story. However, Weapon Story is coming back now with the upgraded version,NieR Replicant Ver 1.22.
