A new ‘Nightmare’ mod for the remake ofResident Evil 4was released earlier this week, and it takes things up a notch by changing how various game elements work, such as yellow herbs, combat knife durability, merchant prices, and more.

The modern reinterpretation of Resident Evil 4 has only been available for a couple of weeks, but players are already looking to up the ante with increased difficulty. Although the professional and hardcore modes increase the game’s difficulty by making enemies stronger and changing item cost, there are still a number of players looking for a real struggle in rural Spain.

Since its launch last month, Resident Evil players have been creating various mods to add new items, guns, and cosmetics to the game. Some of these fan-made creations bring notable changes to gameplay features and make the combat even harder. However, that wasn’t enough for die-hard Resident Evil fans out there. Created by a modder called Sunt222, the Nightmare mod is available to download fromNexusModsand greatly increases the difficulty by making changes to key parts of the game, like healing, combat, merchant, and damage values.

The mode increases the prices of nearly all merchant purchases, along with changes to the damage values of enemies, causing players to take more damage than usual. But if that’s not enough for you, the mod also increases the difficulty of repairing body armor and the combat knife while also making it harder to craft yellow herbs.

The modder recommends players start the game with no bonus accessories, items, or weapons applied. Those looking for an intense challenge are also advised to use this Nightmare mod while playing at a professional or hardcore level.

It is safe to say that Resident Evil 4 Remake is not straightforward with its difficulty levels, as players never know if they will be able to eliminate foes. They can not change the difficulty once they have chosen it, and the professional mode is not available until the completion of the game. This is probably because Resident Evil 4 Remake has new achievements tied to their chosen difficulty level. Players who want to dive into a real struggle are advised to complete the game again in professional mode, in which ammunition is more scarce and enemies are even more powerful.
