One of the recurring themes in theNarutoseries is The Will of Fire. It lays out the idea of loyalty, duty, and devotion to a homeland, and most specifically, it ties well with Konohagakure and its duty-bound citizens.

But most of all, it also puts them in jeopardy with the perilous journeys and suicide missions. Although the concept is as flawed as it gets, most fans might have been wrong all along regarding its progenitor.

In particular, it wasn’t the First Hokage who started it all as most fans would think. The real torchbearer of the ideology is yet another legendary and goated Shinobi in the series. This also raises several questions regarding plot inconsistencies.

Especially, with the First Hokage’s death, most aspects of the series seem flatlined. While fans have put forth their theories, Kishimoto has yet to charter and flesh out his death in his magnum opus series.

The real torchbearer of the Will of Fire

Since the beginning of the series, we are introduced to the concept of the Will of Fire. As the core ideology of Konoha, it is symbolic of loyalty and patriotism in every sense. And thoughFirst Hokageis said to have fueled the fervor, it isn’t true.

The ideology stems from Ashura Otsutsuki’s belief in love being the true key to peace. While this view faltered along the way, there have been several torchbearers in the series. But there is more to it than meets the eye.

Apart from the Knucklehead ninja, the First Hokage firmly believed in Asura’s ideology. The Senju clanand its feud with the Uchihas were eventually resolved until Madara’s revival in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Other than loyalty and patriotism, the belief outlines sacrifice and loss. It is deeply rooted in tragedy which is often overlooked. Ensuring peace requires a legendary sacrifice. In this manner, Tobirama may have been the one to start his legacy.

With Tobirama’s death at the hands of Kinkaku and Ginkaku, Redditorsdeemed himas the precursor of Will of Fire.

Above all, though, Tobirama’s contributions to the Shinboiverse have been grossly overlooked amidst the hate. Despite his questionable policies he worked to ensure peace and harmony in Konoha.

Despite their contentious moves and trajectories, the Senju clan’s feats are often slept on in the series. And though both First and Second Hokage are god-tier, Kishimoto should have chartered their abilities well.
