TheFinal Fantasycrossover set inMagic: The Gatheringis finally out, but the developers have expressed regret at not including a character fromFinal Fantasy 9, and want to include them in a future crossover set.
One of the complaints about the Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy crossover set is that it only included characters from the sixteen mainline games. This meantno direct sequels(likeFinal Fantasy X-2) or spin-offs.

Final Fantasy 7’s Worst Section Can Be Used On Enemies In Magic: The Gathering
The single most frustrating section in the original Final Fantasy VII can now be unleashed as a spell in Magic: The Gathering’s crossover set.
Even with the mainline game restriction, not every popular character or creature made it in. In an interview withGamespot, senior game designer Daniel Holt said that there was one hero that they regretted not being able to give a card to, though they managed to include them in the artwork for other spells.

Eiko Just Missed Out On Appearing in Magic: The Gathering
According to Holt, the team wanted to include Eiko, the summoner from Final Fantasy 9. They weren’t able to squeeze her in, but she is on the list ifanother crossover sethappens further down the road.
I think you touched on it right there. And I think Eiko is one that… we’re like, “Okay, if we were to do it again, we’d probably attempt to get her in.”

Eiko does appear in the artwork for the Sleep and the Crystal Fragments cards, but she doesn’t get her own Legendary Creature. This was likely due to Dagger already filling a similar role to her in the set, with an effect thatinfluences Saga Creatures, aka, the summons of the set.
The Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering crossover sethas been a smash hit, so there’s a strong possibility that there will be another in the future. After all, there were tons of characters missed the first time around, so there’s plenty of content available to mine. Hopefully, Eiko will get a chance to shine, especially when so many other Final Fantasy 9 party members did.
