Magic: The Gathering is already hosting some massive crossovers in 2025, withMarvelsets planned for the year, and theFinal Fantasycard pre-orders already sold out online. These are running alongside theexpansions setwithin Magic: The Gathering’s multiverse, which continue its story.

One of Final Fantasy’s earliest flubbed lines is now official in Magic: The Gathering.
There’s anew crossover setlaunching this year, as it was revealed during MagicCon: Chicago that an Avatar: The Last Airbender expansion is launching on June 24, 2025. A teaser video is now available on the official Magic: The Gathering YouTube channel. A set page is also on the official Magic: The Gatheringwebsite.
The Avatar Is Coming To MTG
Unfortunately, outside of the release date,little information wasrevealed about the Avatar set. All that is known is that it will be a Standard-legal set featuring heroes and villains from the show. It’s unclear if it will even include characters from The Legend of Korra.
It’s safe to say the set will heavily reference the four classic elements and will have a ton of characters tied to each. This isn’t exactly a new concept to Magic: The Gathering, so there could be some classic mechanics revived specifically for use with Avatar characters.
Magic: The Gathering Live-Action Movie & TV Shows On The Way
A Magic: The Gathering movie and TV series is being developed by Legendary Entertainment.
With Avatar launching in November and Final Fantasylaunching in June, the question now is when theMarvel’s Spider-Mancrossover will be released, as it’s still expected to come out in 2025. It might be sandwiched between them or pushed back until next year.
Whatever the case, it’s great to hear that the Avatar cast is coming to the Magic: The Gathering universe. They’re certainly a better fit than some of the crossover characters that have appeared in the past (like the ones fromThe Walking Dead). IfJumbo Cactuaris anything to go by, then the developers will have no problem making OP cards out of Avatar’s strongest heroes.
