Moving quite far away from the Persona saga,Metaphor: ReFantazioleans more toward the fantastical and medieval rather than the modern setting represented by Atlus’s other flagship series. Throughout the game, you can obtain a total of 46 archetypes, the companions you summon in battle.
As you advance through the game, you will unlock the 14 sub-classes that divide these 46 archetypes. Certain archetypes will really make the difference in battle; you will be able to unlock them while you progress in the story. This is a guide on how to get the 46 archetypes available inMetaphor: ReFantazio.

This archetype has the fewest real variations, yet it remains highly effective in combat. This archetype belongs to the basic class inMetaphor: ReFantazio.
It has a total of six common abilities, with the most powerful and notable one being Faker’s Roguery, which has a chance to inflict forgetfulness on an enemy. As for its synthesis abilities, it has the potential to execute five of them. On the other hand, Trickster is its only available archetype.

The Brawler is another basic archetype you can obtain in the game. As its name suggests, this archetype mainly focuses on physical attacks. In addition, it can acquire several passive abilities that can enhance critical hits or even increase health.
One of the seven abilities it has available is a support ability that can boost the caster’s attack and defense. The Brawler has two synthesis abilities and can also unlock two archetypes called Pugilist and Martial Artist.

True to its name, the majority of this particular archetype’s five abilities inflict piercing damage, often accompanied by other statuses such as sleep or poison. If buffed with a potential critical hit, it can be devastating in battle.
It can also boost allies’ evaluation for a total of three turns, thanks to its support ability. It has a total of three synthesis abilities to use. The Gunner also has two archetypes to unlock: Sniper and Dragoon.

Continuing with the basic archetypes, one of the most attention-grabbing and effective in combat is the Mage, which focuses on various types of elemental damage.

Another notable aspect of the Mage is that it has a total of seven synthesis abilities to choose from. The Mage has three distinct archetypes to unlock: Wizard, Elemental Master, and Warlock.
One of the standout features of this basic archetype is that it mainly serves to attract attention and improve defense with several of its abilities. Ironclad Bond, the Knight’s ability, boosts defense by 10%.
Its support ability is ideal for attracting enemies’ attention for one turn and buffing the archetype you’re going to attack with in battle. It has four synthesis abilities.
Furthermore, one of the best things about the Knight is that its lineage has four more archetypes: Magic Knight, Paladin, Dark Knight, and Royal Knight.
This is another basic archetype that focuses mainly on dark attacks. Two of its six abilities deal dark damage, making it ideal for battles with enemies weak to this element.
Additionally, true to its name, this archetype inMetaphor: ReFantaziohas several abilities that can steal items, health, and magic points from opponents. It has three synthesis abilities in total. Interestingly, it has three different archetypes: Assassin, Ninja, and Royal Thief.
One of the simplest archetypes, it has two abilities but interesting attacks. Summon Eagle Lion deals a significant amount of wind magic damage to enemies and lowers their attack for three turns.
Its other ability, Summon Noctiluca, gradually restores an ally’s health over three turns and removes any status conditions. It has a total of five synthesis abilities to use. The Summoner has two archetypes in its lineage: Devil Summoner and Royal Summoner.
This is one of the most powerful basic archetypes in terms of physical damage. One of the Berserker’s attacks deals medium physical damage to a single enemy, while another one targets all enemies.
On the other hand, if you want to take a chance, you can use Frenzy, which delivers heavy physical damage to all enemies one out of every three times. It has a total of four synthesis abilities to try. The Berserker has two archetypes in its lineage: Destroyer and Royal Berserker.
This archetype inMetaphor: ReFantaziohas a total of six abilities, two of which are recovery-type. One of these abilities heals a small percentage of life for all party members.
Healer’s Insight is a passive ability that heals a moderate amount of life each turn and increases its effectiveness with characters of the same lineage. It has three synthesis abilities to use. The other two variants of the Healer archetype are Cleric and Savior.
Among its five available abilities, the Merchant’s main characteristic is its Lucky Find attack, which increases the chance of receiving items after a battle by 20%. It has a total of two synthesis abilities. The Merchant has one archetype variant called Tycoon.
The Commander is primarily a support archetype since its abilities include increasing an ally’s critical hit chance or even moving allies to the front line while boosting their attack.
It has a total of four synthesis abilities available. In its lineage, the Commander can evolve into two more archetypes: General and Warlord.
The Seeker archetype is quite versatile, as its six abilities cover various types of damage. Two of its attacks are wind-based. As a support, it can also boost an ally’s attack for three turns. It has seven synthesis abilities to use.
The Seeker is a basic archetype with two variants in its lineage: Magic Seeker and Soul Hacker.
This archetype is highly offensive, with four of its five attacks being of the Slasher type. The Critical Strike ability, despite its low accuracy, ensures that every strike that hits the enemy is critical.
In addition, Slash Boost increases this attack by 20%. Also, Heat Up boosts allies’ physical attack by 10%, with an even better effect for archetypes of the same lineage. It has three synthesis abilities in its arsenal. The Warrior lineage has intriguing variations, such as Swordmaster, Samurai, and Royal Warrior.
Masked Dancer
Despite having few available abilities (four in total), two of them are fire-based, dealing significant damage. One of these can even inflict a burned state.
On the other hand, Masked Revelry, a passive ability, restores a moderate amount of MP to casters and provides bonuses to archetypes of the same lineage. It has four synthesis abilities. The Masked Dancer has two additional archetypes in its lineage: Persona Master and Royal Masked Dancer.
This is the best archetype in the entire game, and obviously, only the protagonist can use it. It will be unlocked as you progress through the story. It has a total of eight abilities, each one better than the last.
For example, Radiance deals a significant amount of heavy light damage to all enemies. Additionally, passively, with the Morale Boost ability, it can increase MP and health for allies. Your other physical attacks deal massive damage to enemies.
Among its seven possible synthesis abilities, the most notable is Armageddon’s Final Sire. This ability, if you have a full party of royal-type archetypes, will deal 9,999 damage to all enemies.
