While Netflix’sDaredevilwas canceled after its third season, the world of the show gets a new lease of life in the MCU withDaredevil: Born Again. The Netflix original was beloved by fans for its amazing performances and incredible writing. Despite good ratings and viewership, the series was canceled around the time the MCU focused on streaming.

According to actor Wilson Bethel, the real gap between the two shows and how the actors themselves have evolved physically and mentally since then had been woven into the script to make sure it captured reality.
Daredevil: Born AgainStar Reveals The Reason For The Five Year Time Jump
Six years ago, fans were disappointed beyond measure when Netflix canceledDaredevilafter its third season. The show had great writing, incredible action sequences, and equally phenomenal performances from lead stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and others. Still, the show was not renewed for a fourth and all spinoffs were canceled too.
However, all was not lost as Cox’s Matt Murdock returned for multiple cameos in the MCU, beginning withSpider-Man: No Way Home. He had a much larger role inShe-Hulk: Attorney At Lawwhile also appearing inEcho. It was announced that the show would be revived asDaredevil: Born Againand wouldmake its series premiere in March 2025.

Recently, actor Wilson Bethel, who played Bullseye in the original series revealed that the revival show would be taking place five years after the Netflix show. He mentioned that the five-year-jump was necessary as the actors themselves had gone through various changes both physically and mentally since the Netflix series ended and hence, it made sense.
Daredevil: Born Again Reportedly Has “Serious Horror Vibes” Despite TV-MA Rating: Let’s Hope It’s Not a Repeat of Moon Knight’s Worst Mistake
Bethel mentioned that it was good writing to set up the growth of these characters as even the actors had aged up since fans last saw them. He said toCollider,
The show doesn’t pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on screen, there’s just that little extra bit of life in there…

He also mentioned that the time gap helped the actors to not just ease into the role but also bring their own growth as people into the characters as many things would have changed for them in reality too.
Charlie Cox Claimed The Stakes Of Previous Seasons Still Exist
A time jump is not new to the MCU.Avengers: Endgamedid it midway through the film and the consequences of the Blip are faced by the characters to this day. While the gap may have allowed the writers to make sense of how the characters last seen in 2018 had evolved both physically and mentally, the stakes and set-ups reportedly still remained the same.

ActorCharlie Coxrecently revealed that although the makers of the revivalDaredevil: Born Againhad discussed the possibility of a complete reinvention, the show ended up being a continuation of the Netflix series. He said (viaComic Book Movie),
A lot of the history follows on. The relationships and dynamics set up in the previous seasons still exist. A few years have passed. In that time, Matt, Foggy, and Karen have found a pretty good rhythm. Matt’s made peace with his role both as a lawyer and a vigilante. Then, of course, s*it hits the fan.

With the whole of the MCU being opened for theDaredevilgang to take on, the revival is hopefully all the more exciting and action-packed.
