Within every anime, there’s always that one moment that fans are waiting for and that’s to see the protagonist achieve their dreams. When those protagonists are so hellbent on their dreams, it’s hard not to want to see it for yourself. InNaruto, the ultimate goal was to become the next Hokage for Naruto Uzumaki. However, Masashi Kishimoto had other plans for when Naruto actually achieved his goal that left fans more than just pissed off. They were devastated.

When the momentous day came in the OVA,The Day Naruto Became Hokage,it was treated as a joke, from Naruto oversleeping to Himawari accidentally knocking her father unconscious. It’s meant to be light-hearted and a humorous take on how a Hokage ceremony can go wrong from the most mundane things butNarutofans didn’t find it so funny. The moment they’ve been waiting years for was ruined in favor of family comedy and gags.
Did Kishimoto Ruin Naruto’s Hokage Ceremony?
The Day Naruto Became Hokageis something fans have waited to see for 15 years. It wasn’t an easy feat for the protagonist whose entire drive in life was to prove himself to everyone that he could be the leader of the village and to gain respect and recognition when he had none of it in his childhood. He would be the unlikely hero that no one would expect and he earned it through hard work and tough battles.

So to see all that hard work culminate into a gag was nothing more than pissing off in the eyes ofNarutofans. His Hokage ceremony was underwhelming, not heroic enough and the sense of pride was absent. Instead,Masashi Kishimotoreplaced all of that with Naruto oversleeping and Himawari knocking him out over a ripped toy, that too when the punch was actually meant for Boruto. Fans found it over-the-top and too silly even for a troll like Kishimoto.
Some fans did argue that perhapsNaruto became mature enoughthat a simple ceremony wasn’t going to affect him. He already had the respect and recognition he wanted after miles of growth since the beginning of his story. The fact that he’s the Hokage was more important to him than a materialistic ceremony that would be forgotten in the long run.

Naruto’s Journey of Growth or Kishimoto Trolling?
While some fans might be right that the gags went too far and it was a very poor writing decision on Kishimoto’s part, it could also reflect on Naruto’s growth. Naruto spent his entire life wanting this and he finally had it but he didn’t want it for fame and glory. He wanted it for the right reasons which made the ceremony not a huge priority to him.

Still, it doesn’t really excuse the fact that his ceremony meant a lot to fans ofNarutowho wanted to see him get the glory after years of struggling. The fact that Konohamaru had to impersonate him downplayed the achievement greatly. The episode of his ceremony could’ve been handled a lot better if not for Kishimoto’s need to make a joke out of it.
