Everyone is awaiting the Nintendo Direct February 2021 later today and the same can be said for Masahiro Sakurai. The director ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateregularly shares some handmade screenshots of the game on Twitter, using developer-only camera angles. However, Masahiro Sakurai also regularly shares some of his thoughts via tweets.
Now, Masahiro Sakurai shared some interesting comments regarding the Nintendo Direct coming this February 17. We translated them below.
Masahiro Sakurai:“The only thing that was specified beforehand is that it will include new information onSmash Bros. I’m looking forward to the other announcements!! With the pandemic and all, I wonder if many games were held back until now, and will all be announced at once. (Note that I don’t know what will be announced).”
You should definitely keep in mind this is not a teaser, but only aprediction. Masahiro Sakurai explicitly stated at the end of his tweet he doesn’t know himself what will be announced on the Nintendo Direct February 2021. Besides theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimaterelated announcements, needless to say.
It’s also important to note that neither Nintendo or Sakurai in his tweet confirmed that a new DLC character will be announced forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
They only stated there will be “announcements” for the game. It’s highly likely a new DLC fighter character will be revealed though. Be sure to check our characterpredictions.
The last Nintendo Direct was on June 09, 2025. Ever since, Nintendo only published Nintendo Direct Mini videos. Most probably because of the pandemic. Masahiro Sakurai alreadyexplainedin the past how Covid-19 affects his own work onSuper Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Pass Vol. 2.
