PlayStation PlusExtra and Premium members will lose access to a wide variety of games next month, including the originalResident Evil,Metro: Last Light Redux, and more importantly,Marvel’s Spider-ManStandard and GOTY Editions.
While people understand thatSonyhas limited contracts with third-party publishers hosting their games on PlayStation Plus, fans are upset that Sony is removing a first-party title from the service.

When Sony first announced the new PlayStation Plus structure, fans were informed that first-party titles were not going to be added at launch, a reasonable move considering the financials. When the new PlayStation Plus tiers launched back in June 2022, the Extra and Premium memberships hosted Marvel’s Spider-Man, a game that was originally released back in 2018, but now, less than a year after hosting the game,Insomniac’s epic hit is supposed to leave the service in May 2023.
People are upset because they believe Sony is removing Marvel’s Spider-Man from the service becauseMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will be starting its marketing cycle soon. In other words, as marketing for the sequel ramps up, a subsection of players will want to play the original, and Sony is looking to cash in on that.
“I have a feeling Spider-Man is leaving because the Spider-Man 2 announcement is imminent and will spike sales for Spider-Man 1,” aReddit commenter said. “Reminding me that Premium is an absolute waste of money, so many games leaving,“another commented. Thefull threadcontains a lot of negative sentiment for Sony’s decision.
Along with Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sony will be removing 31 other titles, listed below.
Although these games will soon be removed from the service, Sony announced a new batch of games joining PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, includingKena: Bridge of Spirits, which is also aPlayStationconsole exclusive.
