The latest video games sales totals in the United States for the month of July were recently divulged, and the big winners on the month shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
For the month of July 2019, EA’sMadden 20ended up being the best-selling piece of software for this period of time. Even thoughMadden 20technically didn’t launch until August 2, The NPD Group’s statistics for this past month extended through August 3. So even though it had such a small amount of time to accrue sales,Madden 20was still able to best the rest of the field. This is also the 20th straight year thatMaddenhas been the best-selling game in its release month for the year.
Coming in behindMadden 20on the month was a slew of titles from Nintendo.Fire Emblem: Three Housesended up finishing in second place on the software sales chart for July.Three Houseswas the best-sellingFire Emblemtitle in its launch month to date and is also already the second best-selling game in the series' history.
As the other top-5 finishers this month,Super Mario Maker 2,Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, andMinecraftrounded out the list, in that order. As mentioned before, it was a strong showing for Nintendo in July with the publisher having 6 games in the top-10 on the month.

On the hardware side of things, it should come as no surprise at all that Nintendo and the Switch once again topped the chart in July. It was both the top-selling on the month in terms of units sold and dollars made. It’s also still the best-selling platform of the year as a whole, which likely won’t be changing anytime soon.
Lastly, spending as a whole for the month of July 2019 was higher compared to July 2018, mainly due toMadden 20launching in this window compared to that of August. Video game sales as a whole on the year are still down compared to 2018, but this is mainly contributed to the dip in hardware sales.
