The Internet never forgets – especially when it comes to holding celebrities accountable for their insensitive actions. Recently, theEmilia Pérezactress, Karla Sofía Gascón, shocked the world when old tweets of hers resurfaced on social media. Needless to say, people are calling for her disqualification from the 2025 Academy Awards where she is nominated for Best Actress.

Karla Sofía Gascón isn’t the only celebrity who has had her past come back to bite them. Old tweets resurface all the time, leaving fans feeling shocked and disgusted. From James Gunn to Camilla Cabello, let’s take a look at some of the times celebrities have had to apologize for their past words.

1Karla Sofía Gascón

The list couldn’t have begun without Karla Sofía Gascón who has become a hot topic in the industry today. Journalist Sarah Hagi uncovered tweets by the actress which were posted sometime between 2020 and 2021. In the shocking tweets, Gascón was seen spreading hateful comments about Islam and its followers as well as other religions.

She also had something to say about the George Floyd tragedy. In a statement shared withThe Hollywood Reporter, Gascón said that she will be closing her X account on the advice of her family. She stated that she won’t let“this campaign of hate and misinformation”hurt her or her loved ones.

After giving her side of the story, Gascón added,“Perhaps my words are not correct, many times due to ignorance or pure mistake. I apologize again if anyone has ever felt offended or in the future.”

We will have to wait and see how this affects Gascón’s chances at the 97th Academy Awards.

Now this is a name most would not imagine could be on such a list.James Gunnhas helmed some of the most insane films to have come out of the superhero genre and to see what he had once posted was like a blow to his fans.

Conservative side Daily Caller dug out some offensive tweets from 2008-09 in which Gunn had made some uncalled comments on pdophilia, rpe, 9/11, and the Holocaust. Yikes. In one of his tweets (viaThe Guardian), he said,“The best thing about being rped is when you’re done being rped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being r*ped!’”

Gunn then had to apologize for his past actions stating that his words were“totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative,” and that he has“regretted them for many years since.”He added that his past tweets are not a reflection of who he is today. Gunn was fired from Marvel Studios but was reinstated later.

3Kevin Hart

The comedian who everyone finds funny,Kevin Hartwas all set to host the 2019 Oscars ceremony but this decision was almost immediately met with criticism by people who were aware of Hart’s old homophobic tweets and jokes.

Between the years 2009-11, Hart was seen making a series of homophobic jokes including one about what he’d do if his son came out as gay. As per Billboard, the comedian joked that he’d have to break a dollhouse over his son’s head if he ever found him playing with one.

While he initially refused to apologize, stating that he had already done so in the past, Hart tweeted:

I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.

He also stepped down from the hosting gig, and the 2019 Oscars went ahead without any host.

4Amber Rose

Unlike the others on this list,Amber Rose‘s resurfaced tweets didn’t really target a specific community or joke about insensitive topics. However, her words were aimed against one of the biggest families in the entertainment industry – the Kardashians, or as she likes to call them, the KarTrashians.

Rose had datedKanye Westbefore his relationship withKim Kardashian. The controversial rapper once said (viaBillboard) that Rose wouldn’t have been in his life if Kardashian had dated him when he first wanted her to. He added,“It’s very hard for a woman to want to be with someone who’s been with Amber Rose… I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim.”Needless to say, Rose wasn’t happy.

She tweeted, “Wait 30 showers? But Kim let RayJ n*t on her…. Never mind….I’ll leave that up to the Kartrashians to humiliate u when they’re done with u.”

Later, on her Instagram story, Rose apologized for dragging the sisters into the mess West made. She wrote,“Kim nor her sisters deserved that tweet and y’all shouldn’t co-sign that either…[It was] immature af of me to involve the KarDASHians in the mess HE made.” She also added that going forward, she would be learning from her mistakes.

5Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen‘s insensitive tweets from the past resurfaced a few years back in which she insulted several industry people. From Courtney Stodden to Farrah Abraham (Teen Mom)toLindsay Lohan, Teigen had come for everybody.

She took a dig at Stodden in one of her tweets, asking her to take a “dirt nap.”Stodden revealed to The Daily Beast (viaCBS News), that Teigen had sent a DM to her stating,“I can’t wait for you to die.”

Teigen publicly apologized to Stodden and admitted that she was“mortified and sad”looking back at the person she used to be.

6Camilla Cabello

Not exactly a tweet, butCamilla Cabello‘s old Tumblr profile showed the singer using the N-word and reportedly sharing racist jokes and memes between the years 2012-13.

Cabello apologized for her past self stating (viaBBC), “I used language I’m deeply ashamed of and will regret forever.I apologizedthen and I apologizeagain now.”

TheSenoritasinger added that she never meant to“intentionally hurt anyone”and that she regrets it all from the bottom of her heart. She pinned her actions on her being“uneducated and ignorant”about history.
