WhileOne Pieceis known for having some of the most loveable characters with intricate plot lines, and overly positive tone to ever be witnessed in mainstream media, it also comes up with a major downside. Partly because of its beloved cast, Oda often refuses to kill off characters for good, which is perhaps one of few weaknesses it has.

Kaido from One Piece

On one hand, it may sound great that Oda wants everyone to live ‘happily ever after’, however, it waters down some of the epic battles and dramatic character sacrifices that were initially so well-executed. In fact, with the latest developments in chapter 1134 of theOne Piecemanga, fans are now afraid of the possibility of Kaido’s grand return from death!

Oda’s repetitive pattern of not killing characters permanently is proven again

Eiichiro Odahas this long-standing reluctance to kill off major characters, which has become a noticeable trend in the series. Even after some of the most epic battles, having huge stakes, most of our beloved cast members never really die!

The loss of Ace and Whitebeard during the Marineford arcwas the first (and likely the last) major exception, that actually earned much credit from fans. Since then, so many characters have somehow escaped death, like Kin’emon, Saul, Sabo, Jack, and many others.

Also, the latest chapter’s revelation, Vegapunk’s resurrection, again reinforced this rather infamous trend. AsOne Piece‘sstoryline moves forward toward its Final War, this narrative choice may diminish the gravity of this upcoming conflict.

Following Oda’s pattern, while some fans would be excited knowing there’s also a possibility of Kaido’s potential return from death, some would certainly be not. Fans crave genuine stakes, but Oda’s aversion to permanent character deaths may turn the upcoming battles a bit anticlimactic. Does the cycle hold, or does Oda balance his urge to send the series to a happy conclusion with also the requirement of dramatic consequences?

Fans might just see the grand return of Kaido anytime soon

The dust has just barely settled from the spectacular defeat of Kaido at the hands ofMonkey D. Luffyin episode 1049 of theOne Pieceanime, and fans have already begun speculating as to whether or not their favorite villain might return to wreak havoc again. Chances are high that Kaido will come back in much grandeur, especially considering Oda’s recent pattern as mentioned above.

However, bringing Kaido back can also be emotionally draining, for Oda’s pattern of reviving has become such a cliché.The final send-off of Kaidowas so perfectly set up; he got to fulfill his life-long wish of meeting Joy Boy, and his death was heavy in emotion, but to reverse that could take away the depth it brought. So what will Oda do? Will Kaido stay defeated, or will he bring him back, lessening the dramatic tension of the series? Only time will tell.

TheOne Pieceanime is available to watch onCrunchyroll.
