We’re all guilty of calling in sick to work with the most over-the-top excuse, hoping that our bosses don’t catch us in the lie. Well, that’s exactly what Charlie Sheen tried to do when he was called for an interview on Jay Leno’s talk show. Spoiler alert—Sheens’s plan didn’t go well.

According to Jay Leno’s recent interview with entertainment journalist Kjersti Flaa, he recalled the time when Charlie Sheen tried to dodge his talk show appearance with a ridiculous lie. Faking a bizarre accident story, although Sheen tried to avoid appearance, Leno’s investigation later exposed the actor’s weak plot.
Charlie Sheen tried dodging Jay Leno’s talk show with a terrible lie
Getting exposed for your lies might be the worst nightmare, now imagine being televised for your lies. Well, that’s exactly what Charlie Sheen had to experience for his terrible story. According to Jay Leno’s recentinterviewwith entertainment journalist Kjersti Flaa, the former talk show host recalled an incident when he had asked Sheen to appear onThe Tonight Showand the actor tried to bail out.

As per Leno’s discussion with Flaa, the host had called Sheen to be a guest on his show. But instead of canceling his appearance with a simple“I’m not feeling well”, the actor decided to go big. Apparently, the show had sent out a Limo to pick up Sheen from his house and bring him to the studio. But when the clock ticked closer to his appearance Sheen came up with the most outrageous excuse.
We had Charlie Sheen on one day, and it’s like 4 o’clock, we tip at 5. Where’s Charlie? I don’t know. Phone rings on my desk, ‘Jay, it’s Charlie Sheen’. He then goes, ‘Jay, I was in the Limo, we got T-Boned on the 101’.

I go ‘are you ok?’ he says ‘yeah I’m ok’. I ask, ‘is Joe the driver ok?’ and he’s like ‘Joe’s ok. I mean it caught fire but they put it out, it’s fine you know’. I said, ‘Look, Charlie, go home ok, we’ll get a comic or a singer, we’ll get somebody to fill in. Don’t worry about it. We’ll do it another time.’
Can you believe the jaw-dropping story ofCharlie Sheensurviving an accident with the car blazing on fire? Yeah, well, that’s what the actor came up with to avoid a talk show. For Sheen, a catastrophic, limo-destroying event sounded like a legitimate excuse for canceling on Jay Leno. But then, what happened next is the most hilarious bit of the story.

Jay Leno exposed the actor’s lie with investigation and common sense
Considering how even a child could see through Charlie Sheen’s lies, Jay Leno used his common sense and turned on the TV. But then, as none of the news channels appeared covering the accident news, Leno called the driver of the Limo to cross-check. And guess what? The driver was sitting outside Sheen’s house the whole time, waiting for the actor to come out.
I turn on Entertainment Tonight or one other news channel, anything about Charlie? [Shaking head], so I go, ‘Get me Joe the driver’. I go ‘Hello Joe, it’s Jay’. He’s like ‘Jay, what’s up?’. I ask, ‘Where are you?’ and he goes, ‘I’m sitting in front of Charlie’s house, he hasn’t come out yet’.

The limo was fine, the driver was fine, and the only thing not “fine” was Charlie Sheen’s bizarre excuse. Putting the story into pieces,Jay Lenotold Kjersti Flaa, about dialing the actor back. Almost cracking up while expressing his frustration over Sheen’s outrageous lie, Leno told the entertainment journalist how Sheen was possibly drunk, high, or just really not in the mood for an interview.
So I called Charlie and I’m like, ‘What are you, 9 years old? You got T-Boned? Just say you’re high or drunk or whatever, don’t give me a story’.

I mean it makes me laugh so hard, you really think you could get T-Boned in a Limo on a freeway with a movie star and it’s not gonna get picked up everywhere? Yeah. Hilarious.
Eventually, after narrating the incident and exposing Charlie Sheen’s hilarious lie on camera, Jay Leno laughed it off, knowing the truth was way funnier than the made-up accident story.
