Two weeks ago,the Grand Theft Auto VI release date was delayed to August 01, 2025. Many fans found this news disappointing as now they have to wait even longer until they get their hands on the next installment in theGTAseries.
Recently, Jason Schreier, a resourceful journalist who has been spilling the beans in the video game industry, discussed various aspects ofGrand Theft Auto 6’s delay and the reaction of the industry.
In one part of the article, he mentioned that a certain game studio delayed their multiplayer game from Autumn 2025 to Spring 2026, which waspartly caused to avoid a potential clash with GTA 6.
But now GTA VI has been officially delayed until Spring 2026 as well, so once again, there exists the danger of a clash with one of the most anticipated games of all time for that game studio.
Jason Schreier discussed the situation and suggested thatdelaying this multiplayer game one more time would be both costly and risky, as it is not certain that Grand Theft Auto VI will come out on July 09, 2025.

“Now they’re caught in a vise. Delaying their game a second time would be an expensive endeavor, ratcheting up the stakes for the eventual release. Then again, trying to come out alongside GTA VI could be catastrophic. But… what if they delay again and then GTA VI slips along with them? There’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing.”
Jason Schreier Responds To Game Media Outlets' Coverage Of His Report
After this report was published, the last line was taken as a headline by the industry media, leading tothe emergence of many news articles talking about the possibility of Grand Theft Auto VI being delayed again.
Now, Jason Schreier has posted a bitter response on Platform X, criticizing game journalists for taking his statement out of context:
It is true thathe did not directly suggest Grand Theft Auto VI would be delayed again, and he was merely making a hypothetical assumption for the sake of the argument in another game’s case.
However, it’s not surprising that writing such a strong sentence could lead to misleading headlines, as that’s what usually happens in any type of media.
Regardless,it’s always better to wait for official announcements from the developers themselves, rather than relying on reports from journalists and insiders.
As of right now, Rockstar Games is aiming to launch Grand Theft Auto VI on July 05, 2025, for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. They could meet the deadline or delay the game once again.
