The Big Bang TheorySeason 2 introduced Christine Baranski as Johnny Galecki’s on-screen mother, a character that would continue to make recurring appearances throughout its 12-season run. Prior to the hit CBS sitcom, the actress had worked with creator Chuck Lorre on the 1990s seriesCybill.
Given their past working relationship, Galecki assumed Baranski was appearing on the show as a “favor” to Lorre and likely knew little about the sitcom. However, he was surprised to discover his assumption was incorrect.

Baranski, widely recognized for her roles inHow the Grinch Stole ChristmasandMamma Mia!,had the casteagerly anticipating her appearance,with Galecki even describing it as“cool and flattering.”
“That was really very cool and flattering because you hear something like that, that Christine Baranski is going to come on the show,”he told Bullz Eye. However, he was not sure if the Emmy-nominated actress knew much about their sitcom.
And I just kept saying, “Well, she doesn’t want to come do our show.” You know, I’m so modest about our new little show, and I’m, like, “She’s probably just coming to do Chuck Lorre a favor, but who cares, because it’s Christine Baranski and that’s so exciting.”
However, to his surprise,The Good Fightactress was very well aware of the sitcom.“But then she gets there, and she knows every episode and she’s spending her lunch hours going over her lines,”he recalled.

Galecki further praised the professionalism and dedication of actors like Christine Baranski and Laurie Metcalf, who portrayed Sheldon’s mother, emphasizing that“they really always put the work in,”and noted that it aligned with the collaborative and enjoyable atmosphere on their set.
