Rumors were rampant about the actor’s mystery illness, with some of them being downright absurd. Foxx has now revealed his health scare in a Netflix stand-up comedy special, while also mentioning some of the most humbling moments in his life.

Foxx was also entangled in a controversy last year when he shared an Instagram post that was interpreted as anti-semitic. The actor promptly realized his mistake and took down the post, while apologizing to his fans for the misunderstanding.

During his latest Netflix specialWhat Had Happened Was…,Jamie Foxxrevealed to fans what he had gone through during his hospitalization in April 2023. He shared that he had suffered from a“brain bleed that led to a stroke”(via BBC). Foxx mentioned that he was completely blacked out for the next 20 days after having a bad headache on the set of Back in Action, his Netflix film co-starring Cameron Diaz.

There were not many details available to fans at the time, except for a statement from his daughter Corinne Foxx at the time. The family’s silence on the matter led fans to speculate about the severity of his condition. Foxx jokingly addressed the rumors, sharing,“I thought I saw the devil. Or was it Puffy?”. He was hinting at the recent rumors thatjailed rapper Diddyhad something to do with his health condition.

Foxx shared thathe was initially sent home by the medics, but it was his sister who saw that he wasn’t himself and took him to Piedmont Hospital. The doctors told them about the stroke, adding,“If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.”Doctors did the surgery but couldn’t locate the origin of the brain bleed. Foxx shared:

During the revelation, the star choked up at times while mentioning his family. He praised his sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne for supporting him during this difficult time. He told his fans,“They didn’t want you to see me like this and I didn’t want you to see me like this.”He further shared that he woke up 20 days later in a wheelchair. However, he was in denial, sharing,“Jamie Foxx don’t get strokes.”

After his initial denial, Jamie Foxx had to go to Chicago for rehab. Foxx admitted that he showed some arrogance from his star power, while at the rehab. However, he shared that his therapist didn’t care that he was a big Hollywood star and was blunt in telling him off. Foxx recalled what the therapist had told him (via NPR):
