Hideo Kojima Talks About Glen Powell’sTwisters
The 2024 disaster film,Twistersfollows in the footsteps of its predecessor by focusing on the lives of storm chasers as they pursue tornadoes. Directed by Jan de Bont, the 1996Twisteris known for its depiction of tornadoes through groundbreaking visual effects.
It kept viewers hooked with intense storm scenes and the palpable danger feelings that the characters were able to feel, creating an iconic rollercoaster viewer experience.

The same magic can be evident in its sequel, which emphasized the thrill of chasing the tornados, reminiscing the phenomenon seen in the original film.

Saw “Twisters” in IMAX. The previous film by Jan de Bont was in 1996, so it has already been 28 years. At that time, I was just starting to play around with the “PlayStation 1,” so I remember I was impressed just by watching the development of ILM’s tornado program. So after 28…pic.twitter.com/WN7TGL460V
He also shared his thoughts on the character dynamics, whichGlen Powelland Daisy Edgar-Jones meticulously brought out. He continued,

The film not only showcases the advanced VFX but also “twists” the drama by the characters and successfully “tornadoes” the audience’s emotions.
Kojima further talked about the movie’s ending, which seemed to be getting a polarized response from everyone. While finding the ending somewhat predictable, he was satisfied.

The “tornado’s path” leading up to the end unfolds in a predictable way, but the last scene was nice. Leaving out the romance between them was also perhaps the correct choice.
As per the creator, leaving out a romantic subplot between the main characters added to the movie’s appeal, which in fact, was Steven Spielberg’s suggestion, making it compelling and aligned to the themes of the original film.
Steven Spielberg ChangedTwisters’Ending
It is widely known that Spielberg made a significant contribution to the movie as he was among the executive producers of the original film.
Given that the main leads’ chemistry was significantly blooming in the film, many were disappointed whenthe duo didn’t share a kissat the end, despite a passionate kiss being shot during the production.
“One of the owners was a fan of my games”: If Not for Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima May Not Have Been Able to or Allowed to Work on His Own Company’s Death Stranding
In an interview withCollider, Edgar-Jones shared that it wastheJawsdirectorwho asked to alter the ending. However, she deemed it to be the right decision otherwise the movie would have become a bit cliche.
I think it’s a Spielberg note, wasn’t it? Do you know what it is? I think it stops the film feeling too cliched, actually. I think there’s something really wonderful about it feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something.
Powell continued,
I also think that this movie is not about them finding love. It’s returning Kate to the thing that she loves, which is storm chasing. So that’s what you have at the end of the movie…I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note.
Thanks to Spielberg’s eyes for detail, the 2024 project succeeded in capturing the essence of its predecessor while introducing new elements to enhance the overall narrative.
According toWhen to Stream,Twistersis expected to debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on August 13.
