Director David Leitch has made quite a name in Hollywood for directing gritty action in films such asAtomic Blonde,Deadpool 2,and more. But one of his films that stood out due to its stellar cast and iconic sequences is his 2022 action thrillerBullet Train.Addressing his iconic movie starring Brad Pitt, Leitch recalled one actress who almost appeared in the film.

Well, it’s none other than the DC star Lady Gaga who was once in early talks to joinBullet Train. Speaking withEW, David Leitch thus recalled how the singer had almost replaced Sandra Bullock, had it not been for her scheduling conflicts due toHouse of Gucci. But thankfully, the role later went to Bullock for Lady Gaga seemed like a bad choice to begin with.
Lady Gaga Was Once in Talks to Replace Sandra Bullock inBullet Train
David Leitch’s 2022 blockbusterBullet Train, centered around an assassin named Ladybug (Brad Pitt) who wants nothing more than to live a more quiet and honorable life, featured an ensemble cast that significantly raised the chances of success for the movie. Many big names appeared in the film, including Bad Bunny, Zazie Beetz, and Bryan Tyree Henry.
Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train Had the Most Unbelievable Star in Major Role: Sandra Bullock Was the Replacement
But among all, the one star who might have raised the bar forBullet Trainwith her popularity was Lady Gaga, who unfortunately never made it in the movie. According to David Leitch’s interview withEW, the singer/actress was once in talks to star alongside Brad Pitt as his handler, Maria Beetle. But sadly scheduling conflicts ruined her opportunity.
It really all came down to her schedule with the Ridley [Scott] film. There were short discussions and then, this isn’t going to work because she was preparing for the Ridley movie [House of] Gucci. They shot right before us and overlapped with us and it really didn’t work.

As perDavid Leitch, when Lady Gaga was being sought for the role in the movie, she was already booked forHouse of Gucci. Later on, when the shooting schedule for Ridley Scott’s movie was revealed, it stole her chance of appearing in a pivotal role in the action-thiller. Later on, the role was filled by Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock.
Sandra Bullock Saved the Role Lady Gaga Could Have Ruined
While Lady Gaga almost played the iconic role of Maria Beetle, later portrayed bySandra Bullock, it seems that the singer might not have been the right choice anyway. Although scheduling conflict took away her opportunity to appear in an action-thiller, it seems that the pop icon might have failed to bring the nuance to the character, brought by Bullock.
Fans Think Todd Phillips is Blaming Lady Gaga For Joker 2 Being Awful After His Confession About Her Kissing Scene With a Woman
Considering howLady Gagarecently appeared in the 2024 DC musical/thrillerJoker: Folie à Deux, which witnessed asignificant fall in revenueand rating compared to its predecessor, it seems that the pop star might not be the right choice for blockbuster action thrillers, after all. WhileJokerhad made a billion-dollar success at the box office,Joker 2simply earned $206M at the global box office (viaThe Numbers).
Moreover, not to mention the outright mocking and criticism ofHouse of Guccithat Lady Gaga chose overBullet Train—it seems David Leitch’s 2022 blockbuster dodged a bullet by casting Sandra Bullock instead of the singer. Despite having Oscar-nominated directorRidley Scottassociated with the project, as the 2021 movie failed, Leitch’s movie might have suffered a worse fate.

Bullet Trainis currently available to watch on Hulu.
House of Gucciis currently available to watch on Prime Video.
