Brad Pitt is reportedly being eyed to star in a new untitled science fiction movie led byThe Bikeridersdirector Jeff Nichols. The project is set up for a 2025 filming production in Arkansas after a long-gestating process.

Jeff Nicholswas supposed to direct a loose remake of 1988’sAlien Nation. When Disney acquired Fox, the project fell off and was no longer on the list. The sci-fi movie was later pitched as a Disney+ series, which also did not appeal to the studio. Finally, the filmmaker decided to pick it up again as a movie.

While speaking withComingSoon, Nichols talked about his upcomingAlien Nation-inspired film.

I’d love for it [the sci-fi film] to be my next film. It says everything I want to say about humanity and the universe. It’s a big film. It’s got a big scope to it and a big heart to it.

He teased that “it’s a film with aliens in it, but it takes place in Arkansas,” while playfully adding that “it feels like a movie made by the guy who made Mud, and it just happens to have aliens in it.”Matthew McConaughey’s 2012 adventure thrillerMudwas helmed by Nichols.

It’s quite evident that he’s been chasing this dream for so long after he toldThe Irish Timesthat the movie “will either happen or I’ll be on my deathbed thinking about how I can make it happen.” Industry insiderDaniel Richtmanrecently reported thatBrad Pittis being considered to star in the untitled project.

While speaking on theHappy Sad Confusedpodcast, Nichols revealed thatParamountpicked up the project as it is still an original story and only influenced by 20th Century Studios’Alien Nation.

Fortunately now, that script, without that title, has gone over to Paramount, and after the strike lifts, I can get back to work on it. And it’s kind of amazing working on something for so long because I built this entire alien species and all these other things.

When asked what’s the story about, he only hinted that it “feels like one of my films” although it may require more from the budget department. “It might cost a lot of money so it could be the worst experience of my life. I dunno, but I’d love to make that film,” he quipped.

He’s gone so far to let go of this project so there might be a way he could work on the production cost. Brad Pitt’s talent fee also doesn’t come cheap, but rest assured Nichols could rely on the actor’sstar power.
