It is not new for Sony to hold their exclusives just for PlayStation. Although, in recent years Sony has given access to some of the games but that too after years of its initial release. Sony’s habit of gatekeeping has garnered criticism from fans in recent years and as usual, they fail to reciprocate timely.

Xbox on the other hand has always been open with cross-platform compatibility. Microsoft has never been insecure about its originals as they make the game as accessible as possible. However, this time around Xbox has broken a major tradition and announced thatDOOM: The Dark Ageswill be available for Xbox, as well as PlayStation from day one.
Sony’s insecurities with PS exclusives
Sony has always been shy and closed off with their exclusive games, especially during releases. They have never made a game compatible with other platforms from the inception level of a game. Sony wants people to play those games on PlayStation, ensuring steady sales of the console.
Here are some of the reactions by fans on Instagram, to the news of theDOOM: The Dark Ages‘ leak and Sony’s failure to reciprocate.mitcht_59 wrote:

Imagine if Sony shared like Microsoft does? That’s too hard tho
Sony has yet again failed to reciprocate in the same manner as Xbox has over the years. Sony recently announced the arrival ofGod of War: Ragnarokon PC almost 2 years after the game’s initial release. Same withThe Last of Us, it was released 9 years later.

Xbox boasts it’s inclusivity through action
DOOM: The Dark Agesis set to be a multi-platform game which means it will be released on both Xbox and Playstation on day one. This action by Xbox could also mean, they would be announcing more PlayStation releases likeHaloandForzaat their showcase on 9th June 2024.
Xbox has never been the one to gatekeep exclusives, and is famous for reciprocating fans’ demands, promptly. Some Xbox exclusives that made their way to PlayStation are;The Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion,Ninja Gaiden, andTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, to name a few.

Sony has always been the one to take things very slow when it comes to sharing their exclusives. Sony is yet to debut a game as multi-platform and it might be years before that happens. PlayStation exclusives are slowly making their way to Windows and Xbox but at the cost of time. Players have to wait for years before getting to play a PS-exclusive title. By doing this Sony robs the players of experiencing the game with a fresh perspective and without spoilers.
