After Jack Quaid, Antony Starr also stood by showrunner Eric Kripke’s decision to endThe Boysafter five seasons. Starr shared that while hanging the superhero suit would be sad for him, he doesn’t want the series to overstay its welcome. Before Season 4 of the show premiered, Kripke took to social media to announce that Season 5 would be the final season.
Kripke also revealed that it was always his plan to end the series after five seasons and joked that he was waiting for approval from Vought to announce it. Hughie actor Jack Quaid noted that only a few shows were lucky enough to have an ending of their own terms.

He revealed that it had been a fun ride along with the other actors in the series. Starr also added that he wanted the show to go out on a positive rather thanjust pushing it for further seasons. He shared that everyone working relentlessly on the show would want to exit proudly. He added that five seasons would be the right time to end it. Starr shared withIGN:
I’m very conscious that I want us to go out on a really positive, strong note. I don’t want us to be the show that pushed one season too far and fell flat. On behalf of everyone that works on the show, I think we deserve to go out with our heads up, not feeling like we should have gone earlier or we overstayed our welcome, so to speak. I think it’ll be about the right time, but also it’ll be a hard thing to leave.
Starr’s comments about shows that overstayed their welcome will apply to some of the fan-favorite series. For instance, Kripke learned his lesson from creating five seasons of The CW showSupernatural. He exited after the exhausting shoot of 22 episodes per season, but the show went on for another 10 seasons.
