Despite being surrounded by Latino actors, while shooting the show in Spanish, Vergara noted the struggles she faced in stepping into thenotorious Colombian drug lord’s heels.
I would come home mad as hell. No wonder dramatic actors go crazy and see a therapist. Keep in mind that I came from doing a comedy, Modern Family, which was like going to a party every day, being with my friends, and having a great time. Thank goodness Griselda was only [filming for] six months. I ended up very affected by it.

At the beginning, it was brutal for me because I’ve never done anything like that. Doing Modern Family, you’re on set, you’re happy, your thoughts are happy, you’re with your friends. Griselda was a monster. I would go home and I didn’t know what the hell was happening to me. Your body doesn’t know that you’re not really screaming and crying and doing crack and smoking 90% of the day.
It was hard at the beginning. When I said I’m going to do all this, I wasn’t thinking, because I had never done it before. So, that took me a little while to get used to. I started to take a little bit of something to sleep at night so that I could relax because you have to get up super early the next day to go to work. I couldn’t just sit there in bed going crazy. I figured that out and then I started getting better.
Gradually, after getting a comprehension of her role, Sofía Vergara conceded overcoming the hurdles she initially found unfathomable. However, Vergara was certainly thankful for the brief production tenure forGriselda.
