Acclaimed developer Hideo Kojima has several highly anticipated projects in the works, includingDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachand the mysteriousOD. Ina recent post on Twitter/X, fellow beloved game director, Sam Lake, of Remedy Entertainment posted a video of himself in the process of getting digitally scanned for inclusion in an upcoming video game for Kojima Productions.

Fans of both directors are now clamoring for more information on this exciting collaboration. Many fans have begun to speculate on what game this collaboration could relate to, with the consensus generally being that it is most likely forOn the Beach.
Hideo Kojima and Sam Lake Have Collaborated Before
This would not be the first time the two industry legends have collaborated. In the firstDeath Strandinggame, players can communicate with the hologram of an NPC bearing Lake’s likeness. It is a fun easter egg in the game’s Central region, with Lake portraying a character referred to as “The Veteran Porter.”

Additionally, Kojima made a cameo appearance in 2019’sControl, in a PlayStation 4-exclusive mission titled “Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience.” This mission was made available to buyers of the game’s season pass on the PS4, and had players interacting with a Japanese scientist named Dr. Yoshimi Tokui, voiced by Kojima.
The two famed developers have seemingly maintained a close relationship for some time, with both proudly supporting one another’s works. Kojima’s most recent game featured a plethora of cameos, including Geoff Keighley, Junji Ito, and even Edgar Wright, director of films such asShaun of the Dead,Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,andBaby Driver.

The Two Visionary Game Directors Stay Busy
Both developers will remain incredibly busy for some time. While Kojima Productions remains hard at work onOn the Beachfor PlayStation andODfor Xbox, the studio is also working on another mysterious PlayStation title currently known only asPhysint, which will return to Kojima’s espionage roots.

Meanwhile, Lake’s beloved studio has quite a few irons in the fire. Following last year’sAlan Wake IIbecoming Remedy’s fastest-selling title ever, the studio still has two upcoming expansions in the works for the game:Night SpringsandLake House. Neither expansion has a release date at this time.
Additionally, after recently gaining all publishing rights to theControlseries, the studio hasControl 2in the works alongside a multiplayer spinoff game codenamedCondor. On top of all of this, Remedy is also deep into production of a combined remake of the first twoMax Paynegames, with Rockstar Games publishing.

Lastly, there is the project codenamedKestrel(formerlyVanguard) which is a multiplayer title published by Tencent, though it has seen several restarts in development and is likely still a good while out.
