Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreehas introduced a range of new features to the game. Despite its enormous size, the game now feels richer and more mysterious thanks to FromSoftware’s eye for detail.

However, not all the features have been polished, and some several spells and incantations feel“broken”according to several fans. This includes spells of varying kinds, ranging from healing to damage-based ones.

Players Refuse to Believe That Developers Tested These Features Before Launch

When JackNewbie555 on Reddit wrote about the game’s current state, multiple things came to light. The post highlights how many of the newly added spells and incantations feel completely unpolished and something that developers didn’t pay attention to before releasingElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

The user goes on to describe how many incantations simply don’t feel worthy of being kept in one’s loadout, and several sorceries don’t do the intended damage or use way more FP than they should.

This wasn’t a big problem in the base game, but with the arrival of the DLC, it feels like the developers simply refused to test these out in multiple scenarios and hastily put them in the game.

One of Elden Ring’s Greatest Strengths Is Now a Disappointing Weakness

Fans of FromSoftware who have been playing older games likeDark Soulsmay often agree thatElden Ringhas tried to be a culmination of the studio’s greatest game design philosophies.

The open-world adventure not only tells fascinating and newer storiescompared to previous titles by the studio, but it also combines multiple gameplay systems that made older games so popular. Using magic as a playable mechanic is one of these.

Several sorcery users expected the DLC to be the ideal update for new content that introduced unique ways of wielding magic, but it seems that FromSoftware’s execution of this idea has backfired.

It doesn’t help to think that most of these problems are quite foundational, and the studio will have to introduce more than just a simple patch to address all the issues.

At the time of writing, these observations are merely from the players and not something FromSoftware has officially addressed. We’ll have to wait and watch for updates… or simply accept the brokenness of how incantations feel inElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
