Do you remember back whenSuper Mario Odysseywas revealed and the gaming world was hit by the revelation “who or what on earth is Mario?”

The revelation was in relation to the game’s best world, New Donk City, a New York City-inspired locale set in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, while the world was great, there were normal size humans walking around, dwarfing the titular hero Mario, leading to many, many confused players.

Now, followingAnimal Crossing: New Horizons’massive 2.0 update, players are facing a familiar feeling. What on earth is our villager?

Up until now, there had been no indication that we were anything but a small human living in an anthropomorphic animal-populated world. Sadly, that appears to be a misconception.

As part of theNew Horizons'2.0 updateand theHappy Home Paradise DLC,more than 9000+ new furniture items have been added to the game. Most of these are fairly innocuous. Chairs, tables, beds, wardrobes and pretty much everything in between. However, one range of items has me concerned and seems to confirm that humans are canonical in theAnimal Crossinguniverse.

The items in questionhave been datamined byAnimal Crossing Worldand consist of 50 different mannequins of different genders and sizes, wearing an assortment of clothing.

Don’t get me wrong, mannequins have always existed inAnimal Crossing, it’s just, well, they’ve been shaped like our villagers, implying that this body shape and size is normal in this world. These newly added ones though would appear to suggest otherwise.

As seen in the image below, we appear to have male and female mannequins, as well as child-sized ones and what makes this even more creepy is the fact that, for some reason, the male ones are laying flat on the floor.

That takes us back to the original question, one that plagued Mario fans back in 2017, who are we!?

We’ll keep you updated if we find out more!
