We’re back with more details onTales of Arisetranslated from the Q&A held by producer Yusuke Tomizawa on the latest stream, this time with some general answers regarding the game’s length, story, and hypothetical DLC, sequels, and prequels.Lastly, TomizawaP actually spoiled something about the ending.

The Q&A was over one hour long with tons of interesting development details. For example, we learned how the seiyuu inTales of Arisewere picked through auditions. None of the party members were made with a seiyuu already typecasted. The cast also recorded together as much as possible.

How long it takes to beatTales of Arise?

One fan asked Yusuke Tomizawa how long isTales of Arise. Here’s his answer.

Yusuke Tomizawa: “Needless to say it’ll depend on your playstyle. But overall, I can say it’ll be around the same length asTales of Berseria. Of course, the game will have a lot of side content and replayability for second runs as well.”

Tales of Berseriahad an acceptable amount of side-content, so this is reassuring forArise. One thing I was worried about was the development team focusing all its efforts on the main story, ending up with a barebones game outside its main scenario.

WillTales ofAriseget a story DLC, a prequel or a sequel?

Next, one fan, who was definitely referencing theTales of ZestiriaAlisha controversy and DLC, asked ifTales of Arise’s story will actually be completed without having to buy DLC. Another fan similarly asked whetherArisewill get an additional game to fully complete its storylines, similarly toTales of Xilia1 and2, orTales of ZestiriaandBerseria.

Yusuke Tomizawa:“The story ofTales of Ariseresolves itself in the game. We do have DLC content like in the Limited Edition, but all the story is in the base game. I guarantee it. Moreover,Ariseis fundamentally a stand-alone game. We don’t plan to link it with another game, and it will conclude itself in this one game. There will beTales of Arisecollaboration content in the crossover mobile games, but it’ll be completely unrelated to the main game. Even if you don’t play the mobile games you’ll still be able to enjoyTales of Arise.”

Tales of Ariseending spoiler

Lastly, one fan asked the most straightforward question you could ever ask, whether the ending ofTales of Ariseis a happy ending or a bad ending. To be fair, that’s a valid concern seeing the game starts with somepretty grim stakes. Protagonist Alphen and co are fighting against slavery and discrimination. Heroine Shionne is cursed to inflict pain on anyone she touches, etc.

Yusuke Tomizawa answered:“Well, I don’t want to spoil, but ever since the planning phase ofTales of Arise,we decided from the start it’ll be a game that leaves you with a good aftertaste once you’ve completed it. That’s the kind of game it’ll be. I can’t tell you anything else. As for how the game will reach that good aftertaste, and how it’ll taste like, you’ll have to play it to find out”.

All these questions are answered starting the 1:20:40 timestamp of the stream, linked below.

Tales of Ariseis releasing in Japan on September 9, and worldwide on September 10, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can always reach me on Twitter@A_iyane07to discuss the series.
