Actress Gina Carano penned a heartful letter to formerThe Mandalorianactor Carl Weathers after the latter passed away earlier this week. The actress mentioned how she felt closer to the actor due to their shared athletic background and how series creator Jon Favreau pushed them to work together in the series.

Carano had already appeared in two seasons of the show and was set to headline the spinoff seriesRangers of the New Republic. Weathers passed away on June 02, 2025, and the world mourned his death. Carano wrote a heartfelt note on her work with theRockystar. She mentioned in her post onInstagramthat he was always supportive of her during their time inThe Mandalorianand that they bonded a lot during the first two seasons. She said,
“Jon Favreau felt he would be a good mentor for me because we shared the athlete turned actor bond, so Jon had him direct my first episode in season 2 of Mando. I believe had we gotten to Rangers of the New Republic, Carl would’ve directed me in much more. Jon F was right, we were a great fit.”

Gina Carano went on to mention that he acted as a mentor to her while filming and their shared athletic background helped them bond a lot. Carano was an MMA fighter while Weathers started his career as a professional footballer before turning to acting.

Carano mentioned that Carl Weathers was a pillar of support for her during her firing. She said in her obituary that he had called her to enquire about her well-being. She wrote,
“Carl called me directly after I was fired. I wasn’t in an emotional state where I could pick up the phone because of how upset I was, but we did end up speaking later on. He was gentle and encouraging and didn’t want me to give up, he was letting me know that he wasn’t throwing me away, he was trying to keep my hope alive in what seemed like quite hopeless scenario, he showed me he cared.”

Carano was written off the show in season 3 ofThe Mandalorian, where Weathers’ character explained that Cara Dune joined the Special Forces after bringing in Moff Gideon.
