The 96th Oscar Awards ceremony’s shortlists in ten categories have been revealed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Not only are fifteen films advancing in the live-action, animated, and documentary short-film categories, but also in the competitions for international feature films, documentaries, original songs, and music scores.
Today, ten films advanced in each of the three categories: sound, visual effects, and makeup and hairstyling.Godzilla Minus One, Takashi Yamazaki’s new film in TOHO’sGodzillafranchise, has been shortlisted for the Visual Effects category and this is the first time a Japanese film has made the shortlist for the Visual Effects award at the Academy Awards.

Godzilla Minus OneNominated For Visual Effects Category

The Boy and The Heronis Nominated for Music (Original Score) Category
The Boy and the Herontells the tale of Mahito Maki, a young soldier in the Pacific War, who, following the death of his mother, finds an abandoned tower in his new town and ventures into a magical realm inhabited by a talking grey heron.
Joe Hisaishi’s original score for Hayao Miyazaki’s anime filmThe Boy and the Heronhas been shortlisted for the 96th Academy Awards in the Music (Original Score) category. Except for one film, he has composed the music for Hayao Miyazaki’s films, and the two have been connected since 1984.
