According toreports, the door that struck Ford was designed to mimic the movement of the spaceship on the original set. As a result, it is likely that like most doors in the franchise, it did not have any hinges. The franchise has an unwritten rule that all doors are supposed to slide.

This bit of gatekeeping ensures there is a stylistic similarity between the different locations on different projects within the expansive franchise. However, in this instance, the rule ended up causing Ford a serious injury, which required him to undergo surgery. Hence, Ford likely won’t be fond of the sliding doors.
