TheStar Warsuniverse has kept us engaged for decades with its rich lore, iconic characters, and countless unforgettable moments. Han Solo is one of the most celebrated figures in the franchise, as the character embodies the charm and a rebellious spirit that we’ve all come to love. Harrison Ford has almost become inseparable from Solo, and for years, one could only picture him as the captain of the Millennium Falcon.

So the announcement ofSolo: A Star Wars Storyhaving a younger actor to portray Han Solo was a bit concerning to many. Alden Ehrenreich was chosen to portray the smuggler in his early years. You might know of the mixed fan reaction to this news but what did Ford have to say about the same?
Harrison Ford’s take on Alden Ehrenreich playing Han Solo
In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Kathleen Kennedy recalled the time when Harrison Ford was asked aboutAlden Ehrenreich’scasting, and in classic Ford fashion, he responded with,“Good Kid. Good Kid. Really good kid”.According to Kennedy, he also had lunch with the young actor and provided some great insights about playing the character.
He gave Alden that kind of insight which was invaluable. There were several times in the course of making the movie where Alden would actually recount some of the things that Harrison had pointed out. I think that was really, really helpful to him.

His invaluable suggestions helped Ehrenreich to play the character with ease and craft a version of Solo that paid homage to the one that Ford had created. Throughout the filming process, the actor kept going back to the words of his predecessor which became a guiding compass for the role. However, the movie wasn’t a box-office success and received several negative reviews.
The legacy of Harrison Ford as Han Solo inStar Wars
Harrison Fordwas first introduced to us as Han Solo inStar Wars: A New Hope (1977),and his character became an integral part of the franchise. Solo being a quick wit and morally complex figure who mostly thought about himself, made him a beloved antihero.
But it was the actor’s performance that brought layers to the character because he could pull off both sides of Solo, i.e., a rugged rogue and a man who yearns for connection. Ford had a deep understanding of the person he played, and he knew that the duality of wanting someone and struggling with it at the same time was the defining trait.

Moreover, he also collaborated with writers and directors, helping them to shape Solo’s motivations. He certainly shared these details with Ehrenreich as well, so the“good kid”assessment was his blunt but affectionate way of showing that he believed in the young actor’s ability to carry Han Solo’s legacy forward.
