Marvel’sEchois a five-episode miniseries that sheds light on the life of Maya Lopez, first introduced inHawkeye. The series explores Maya’s past and present through her connection with her ancestors, granting her supernatural powers. It revolves around the conflict between Maya and her adoptive uncle, Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, as she reconnects with her birth family.
The series also has a TV-MA rating, allowing for some truly brutal and gruesome scenes that underline the titular character’s violent nature. One such gruesome scene was unfortunately cut from the series. Marvel insider CanWeGetSomeToast shared some details of the deleted scene on social media. The scene in question would have improved Maya’s portrayal in the series, making Alaqua Cox look like a total badass.

EchoDeleted Scene Showed Maya Convince Kingpin of Her Loyalty With a Gruesome Act
Echofollows Maya Lopez as she tries to take down Wilson Fisk’s empire with the help of her family, particularly her uncle, Henry “Black Crow” Lopez. A major plot thread of the story is Maya’s struggle between choosing her birth family over her adoptive family. However, a deleted scene would have reportedly seen Maya turning on Henry to join forces with Kingpin.
According to insider CanWeGetSomeToast, a scene depicting Maya shooting Henry was filmed but cut from the final cut of the series. Maya would have shot her uncle in the scene to prove her loyalty to Kingpin. However, she would have used the powers of her ancestor, Tuklo, an expert marksman, so that Henry would not be shot fatally. Instead, Henry would have survived with the help of his mortician friend.
A scene where Uncle Henry was (safely) shot by Maya using Tuklo’s powers was actually filmed for ‘ECHO’ and was cut from the series.

The deleted scene would have added more stakes to the plot, forcing Maya to choose between her birth uncle and her adoptive uncle. It would have also demonstrated the lengths Maya is willing to go to take down Fisk, making Alaqua Cox’s character look like a badass. However, the scene was not included in the series, albeit for reasons unknown.

Marvel’sEchoReportedly Made Several Changes to the Character and Story
In a previous tweet, CanWeGetSomeToast seemingly confirmed that the series made several changes toAlaqua Cox’sMaya Lopez, apart from cutting the aforementioned gruesome scene. One of the major changes to the character’s story from her comic book counterpart is the origins of her powers and their nature.
Two episodes into ‘ECHO’, and Maya’s story and her Choctaw background is ENTHRALLING. My ONE issue with the series is the editing. It hurts.

CanWeGetSomeToast hinted at other narrative changes that were either planned or filmed before they were cut. The insider also complained about the show’s choppy editing, which left out several elements of Maya’s backstory, particularly her Choctaw ancestry. The series wasrumoredto feature Echo’s tattoos from the comics, which was also cut from the final series.

Similarly, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock / Daredevil wasexpectedto play a larger role in the story. The character was supposed to be searching for a former ally. However, this aspect was also cut from the story, with Daredevil making a solitary cameo appearance at the very start, in the show’s first episode. Hence, it is evident that Echo underwent significant changes with many enthralling elements ending up on the chopping floor.
