One of the crucial tools in your arsenal will be momentum abilities. These are special attacks thatadd some flairand lethality to your combat. Each Knight’s momentum abilities are unique, further distinguishing the Knights from one another as you progress through the game.
What Are Momentum Abilities?
These are your special abilities that break up the flow of combat. Instead of just focusing on light and heavy attacks, you’ll eventually be given eight special attacks to work in when and where you can. These moves are powerful and can mean the difference between overcoming your enemies or failing a mission. They specialize in dealing with different types of damage crucial to taking down specialized enemies.
You’ll use these abilities through something of an energy system. Engaging in combat will build momentum. Once you have enough to fill a bar or two bars of momentum, you’re able to use your special abilities. Not all attacks use the same amount of momentum, so you’ll want to pay attention to which attacks eat through your momentum more quickly than others.

Gaining More Abilities Through Story Progression
As you progress through the main story of the game, you’ll unlock a couple of the more essential momentum abilities required for your survival. These aren’t missable, so you don’t have to worry about how or when to unlock them.

Unlocking Abilities Through Challenges
A handful of momentum abilities will be locked behind challenges you gain access to as you progress the story. These challenges will need to be completed on each character to unlock the subsequent momentum ability. Unlike the story-attained abilities, these are missable if you don’t engage with these side challenges. It would be a shame to reach the end of the game without having all of your abilities at your disposal, as they make each Knight more viable in combat scenarios.

Attaining Your Ultimate Through Knighthood
In Gotham Knights, if you want to get the most out of a character, unlock their Knighthood. You can find the Knighthood requirements in the challenge section of the bat computer. While the challenge is the same for all four characters, you will have to complete them individually to unlock Knighthood for everyone. Knighthood unlocks your ultimate momentum ability.
Unlike the other momentum abilities, this comes with a specific Knighthood skill tree where you’ll be able to increase the effectiveness of this ability.

It’s also the only momentum ability to have a cooldown, meaning you won’t be able to spam it like some of your other, more reliable momentum abilities. These abilities are powerful and often enhance both the power and fun of your gameplay. They’re also extremely unique to each character. Batgirl, for instance, summons a drone to aid in combat, while Nightwing creates a zone around himself where he can more easily beat down foes.
