In a battle between the two biggest releases of the past week, Sony’s latest,Ghost of Tsushima, ended up besting the competition.
Sucker Punch’sGhost of Tsushimatopped the weekly UK sales chart for this past week and in the process surpassed Nintendo’s newest launch inPaper Mario: The Origami King. WhileGhost of Tsushimadidn’t come close to doing the same number as Sony’sThe Last of Us Part IIdid last month, it was still a massive release all the same. According toGamesIndustry.biz,Ghost of Tsushimasold at a rate four times higher compared to that ofPaper Mario: The Origami King, which came in second place for the week, showing that there wasn’t much competition between the two titles.
That said,Paper Mariodidn’t have a weak release in the UK by any means.The Origami Kingis said to have had a bigger launch in the region than the last two entries in the series –Sticker StarandColor Splash– had combined. It also ended up surpassing the first week sales ofSuper Paper Marioon the Wii, makingThe Origami Kingthe biggest first-week launch for any installment in the franchise.
As for what else charted well this past week, more of the usual suspects were seen near the top. Last week’s top-sellerF1 2020dropped from first to third whileAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsmoved down to fourth. Meanwhile,The Last of Us Part IIhas continued to sell at a solid rate and rounded out this past week’s top five spots.
