Sucker Punch’sGhost of Tsushimawas one of the best games to come out in 2020, winning Best Art Direction at The Game Awards of that year. The samurai epic, a love letter to Kurosawa movies, followed the tale of Jin Sakai as he sought revenge against and freedom from the Mongol hordes invading his island of Tsushima.
With a solid narrative, background score, and gorgeous graphics,Ghost of Tsushimabecame one of the reasons to own a PlayStation. For fans who were left wanting more, we now have some good news! We may be taking up the blade as Jin once again if rumors pan out to be true.
A Sequel to Ghost of Tsushima Will Be Announced Very Soon
This rumor comes from theIconEra handle on X. They claim that aGhost of Tsushima 2announcement will be happening in either May or June during a PlayStation showcase. It’s been four years since the launch of the original game, so it’s not too soon for this rumor to be dismissed as unbelievable.
Sucker Punch has also been relatively quiet since it released theIki Islandexpansion for the base game in 2021, which raises the question of what they have been working on for the past three years.

The tweet also claims that aGhost of TsushimaPC port may be announced alongside the sequel. This would be in line with PlayStation’s track record of bringing exclusive games to the PC platform before dropping a sequel. It gets more people to play the original and hopefully purchase a PlayStation 5 to play the sequel without having to wait even longer.
The story of the original game was pretty self-contained, with Jin Sakai achieving his goal of liberating his home and becoming its protector. While there was the unresolved departure of Tomoe, who many felt might be the protagonist of the sequel, all other storylines met their conclusions satisfactorily.

It will also be interesting to see what historic event is used as inspiration for the game. The original was based on the Mongol invasion of Japan in the 13th century. Thelocation of the gameis another aspect to be considered. The “Ghost of Tsushima” ended up becoming a title and legend, and as we know, legends tend to spread far beyond their homeland.
A Sequel Should Not Stray Too Far from the Original
Sequels are always trying to outdo their predecessors, which can be a good and a bad thing. It will be great ifGhost of Tsushima 2can top the cinematic, action-packed experience it delivered in the first. But it shouldn’t drift away entirely from its foundations only for the sake of experimenting and delivering something new.
Aspects such as switching between fighting styles or the straightforward leveling system helped the first game keep the story and gameplay in the spotlight. Ditching those for a more intensive RPG experience may take away from what made the first game great.
