The game revisits the golden age of the series by taking the timeline 14 years behind the first game starring Marcus Fenix. However, despite the revisit, there should be a mission archetype that the game should steer clear of.

Gears of War Fans Largely Agree When Asked About the Worst Mission in the Series

Gears of War‘s initial trilogy was a hit because it was innovative. It had so much character and essence that it breathed new life into people’s perception of Xbox. It becamethe title alongsideHalo, which had no substituteavailable in the gaming ecosystems of Nintendo and PlayStation.

“Not finishing the JD/Kait trilogy was a HUGE shock”: Is Gears of War E-Day in Development Thanks to a Corporate Xbox Mandate?

WhenE-Daywas announced, and people witnessed the gruesome, bone-chilling vibe of the game associated with the original, they started gaga. However, not everything about the original trilogy was gold.

When a curious fan asked other members of the series subreddit about which mission was the worst to experience, all of them had a similar answer:

Many other comments on the post see people criticizing the mission archetype because they felt poorly designed. However, there is another reason why such missions felt out of place in the series.

Gears of War’s Driving Missions Disturb Its Pace and Also Take the Fun Away

Gears of Waris a series known for a good story, satisfying gameplay, and the delight of slaying enemies using whatever means necessary. Apart from being poorly designed, missions, which include driving a vehicle, also made for an unpleasant change of pace in the game.

“Through the eyes of those encountering them for the first time”: Gears of War E-Day’s Art Director Wanted to Make the Locust Truly Formidable And Terrifying Again, Rather Than Mindless Cannon Fodder, And Did it in the Best Way

There are a couple of driving missions in games that are primarily shooters, but the problem with the way Xbox’s third-person shooter franchise is that it is based on shock and awe.

Driving a sluggish vehicle and using mounted guns is no fun, and it doesn’t help when such missions require almost no skill and just pure luck. So, the upcoming title in the franchise is better off excluding missions of this kind and restricting any driving necessary to the lore to cutscenes and cinematics.
