The newest Dev Talk forMarvel Rivalsjust released, detailing a bunch of changes the studio has made. There’s new information on the Closed Beta, including language, and server support, cross-region play, and more, but one of the most exciting features mentioned is crossplay.

Marvel Rivals is introducing console-only crossplay.

The developers have gone the extra mile to ensure console players can have a great time in the game; however, this might end up dividing the fanbase on an issue that’s quite polarizing across many communities.

Marvel Rivals Gives Console Players Their Space

Aftera successful Closed Alpha Test, it’s time for the next phase: the Closed Beta Test (CBT). Before we move on, there’s an extensive list of updates featured in the latest Dev Talkblog postwhich includes some very important updates regarding crossplay.

Players across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC will be able to play together and against each other in battles across the Multiverse. You can freely toggle crossplay in non-ranked modes, although it’s unclear whether this can be set to console-only crossplay or universal crossplay.

For ranked competition, however, the directive is much more clear. The ranked mode has universal crossplay and console-only crossplay if you’d prefer to play against competitors on your platform.

After a bunch of feedback, the developers are also exploring and testing out the possibility of cross-progression, so that you’re able to carry your progress with you across platforms. It’s a hint of a promise, and not a confirmation, just to be clear.

Is crossplay harmful, or does it drive a healthy player base?

To Crossplay, or Not to Crossplay?

Ever sinceMarvel Rivalswas confirmed to come to theconsole, crossplay has been a major concern.

On one hand, PC players have a rampant issue with cheating, it can be unfair to go against such players when you’re on a controller. Cheating aside, there’s a very big advantage that mouse and keyboard players have against players on a controller, even with aim assist.

On the other hand, you might have some friends scattered across different devices that you want to play with. Or, you might just be feeling brave to take on PC players with a controller in hand.

Either way, the choice should be up to the player. If you want to play against PC players only as a PC player, or if you want to play with other console players while on an Xbox, all of these options are equally valid.

CBT will be five times larger than the Alpha test. Servers will cover North America, Europe, and Asia, but players can opt for cross-region gameplay. The game will also be available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese.
