X userPyocalled the in-game microtransactions “insane”. WhileFalKoopapointed out that for the price of a single Foamstars bundle, you could purchase the entire Kiryu saga of the Yakuza series on Steam for roughly the same price.

Anotheruserpointed out that the pricing of Foamstars' microtransactions is “questionable” due to the fact that it is a new, live-service IP that could very well be shut down in the future if it doesn’t meet the company’s expectations. Plenty of other users on X described the pricing as “nuts”, “outta pocket”, and a “disgrace”.

For those unaware, Foamstars offers multiple cosmetic items to purchase to change the character’s outfit and overall look. It is, however, worth pointing out that there are much cheaper alternatives, and the overpriced microtransactions are mainly related to the bundles. Players can purchase individual skins for around $11, or purchase a complete bundle with the desired skin and other cosmetic items for $44.
