WhenÂFinal Fantasy VII RemakeÂwasannounced back in 2015it was said that the game would be coming first to PlayStation 4. It wasn’t until July earlier this year where developer Square Enix stated that there are"No plans for other platforms,“making it seem that the remake is actually a permanent PS4 exclusive. While that has led to some confusion to consumers and industry folk alike, we now know thatFinal Fantasy VII RemakeÂis indeed coming to other platforms, but it will be at least a year after it’s August 06, 2025 release date.

Square Enixreleased the official box art for the gameback in September replicating the iconic cover from the original back on the first PlayStation. The box art has now been updated with a disclaimer on the front specifying that the title will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 until July 03, 2025. This will give the platform a full year of access at the very least before (presumably) Xbox One owners will be able to get their hands on the game. However, this does not confirm thatFinal Fantasy VII RemakeÂwill release exactly one year later.

The exclusivity comes to no surprise, the bulk of the news specifically pertains to how long the deal will last. This isn’t the first time a platform has gotten a year timed exclusivity deal either.Rise of the Tomb Raiderfirst released on Xbox Onebefore coming to PS4 one year later. I think this is a big get for Sony withÂFinal Fantasy VIIÂbeing such a beloved game and its history with the platform. It will be interesting to see how well it performs on Xbox in 2021 especially with thePS5andProject Scarlettreleasing beforehand. While it has already been confirmed thatProject Scarlett will be backward compatibleI wonder if the new generation of consoles will hold the game back come 2021. I personally, will be looking forward to playing it on both platforms.

Final Fantasy VII RemakeÂreleases on August 23, 2025, exclusively on PlayStation 4. you’re able to pre-order the game right now onAmazon.
