A Situational Revival Ability
Despite being the last staff in the game players can get for Aerith, the Gambanteinn falls a bit flat. It does have a decent Magic Attack andmultiple Materiaslots to equip, but its base Attack and ability hold this staff back.
Noble Sacrifice is a cool idea but ultimately doesn’t help the party out much more than a Phoenix down or a powerful potion. Aerith dying to revive the two downed party members is already a rare occurrence and would still only have two party members alive, the same number as if Aerith used a Phoenix down on someone.
5Empress’s Scepter
Boost To Basic Attack
The Empress’s Scepter has a bigger focus on Attack than Magic Attack, which goes against Aerith’s usual playstyle. While its ability tries to round out a different style, it ultimately falls flat compared to other staffs and her go-to style.
The ability Radiant Ward offers invincibility when casting spells along with a different and stronger basic attack. The stronger basic Attack is only a slightly noticeable difference numbers wise, and falls behind overtime against a build more focused on casting powerful spells. While the invincibility is nice, a proper party and strategy should usually have Aerith out of the way when casting spells.
4Wizard’s Rod

The Wizard’s Rod has a decent Magic Attack, along with a slight focus on basic Attack. Compared to other staffs obtained before this one, it doesn’t compete well when just looking at the stats.

This weapon’s ability, Lustrous Shield, is a good idea in that it protects the squishy magic user from most attacks. The added bonus of protecting from projectiles is unique and very useful. Its only downside is that another staff accomplishes a lot of the same goals but in a better way.
3Timeless Rod
A Better & Damaging Protection Ability
The Timeless Rod has the second highest Magic Attack of any staff, and its basic Attack is high enough to verify ATB is generated quickly. While the Wizard’s Rod had a good idea for protecting Aerith, this weapon does it even better.
This weapon’s ability is Chrono Aegis, which uses a barrier to freeze and damage approaching enemies. This will protect Aerith from all but projectiles and leave approaching enemies open for a powerful spell to take them out. The bonus damage done by those caught in the barrier is just an added bonus to an already great ability.
2Ceremonial Staff
The Best Magic Attack Staff
The Ceremonial Staff has the highest Magic Attack of any staff in the game, making Aerith’s spells very powerful. While it does only have three Materia slots, the right accessories can make up for that flaw.
This weapon’s unique ability is ATB Ward, which creates a small ward that generates ATB for other characters within. While this does require them to fight within, their bonus ATB can be used to control a battle and capitalize by using more abilities.
1Guard Stick
Double Cast Every Spell
Despite being Aerith’s first weapon, the Guard Stick is a phenomenal weapon that players can use throughout the game. While only offering the third-highest Magic Attack stat, it doesn’t fall behind too much from the other two highest.
What makes this weapon so great is its ability, Arcane Ward. Attack spells cast within this ward are cast against but for slightly less damage. Despite the less damage, the second cast of a spell not only saves ATB but can deal incredible amounts of damage when double-casting a spell like Firaga. This ability can also be taken advantage of byparty members,letting anyone double-cast as long as they are in the ward.
