Who Is Ifrit’s Dominant?

While Clive initially sees a hooded man who he believes to beIfrit’s dominant, it is later shown thatClive is Ifrit’s dominant, and his attack on Phoenix was him losing control during his first transformation. Clive isn’t like other dominants and doesn’t initially have control over his Eikon, not being able to summon it when neededuntil much later in his journey.

Thanks to Joshua, Clive has the blessing of the Phoenix, allowing him to wield fire magic. While it is possible he was also wielding fire magic as he was another dominant of fire, the blessing helped keep the truth hidden from himself and those around him. After coming to terms with his past and through some practice,Clive is later able to prime and semi-prime just like any other dominantnear the end of the game.

Where Did Ifrit Come From?

Near the end of the game, Clive and Joshua come across a creature that looks like Ifrit but is long dead and turning to ash.Ultima, in his most powerful form, is also a figure resembling Ifritand reveals thatIfrit is the true form of Ultima and those like him. As Clive was “Mythos,” or a new perfect vessel for Ultima, he wasgiven the ability to take a form much like that of Ultima’s true form,to steal other Eikon’s powers to prepare the form for Ultima.

While Ifrit is an Eikon of Fire, that isprimarily due to his connection to the Phoenix. Through Clive’s blessing of the Phoenix, his Ifrit was given fire and became a second Eikon of Fire whilealso having the ability totake and use other elements. If Clive was born into a different family or received a different Eikon’s blessing, it’spossible it would have taken that Eikon’s element instead of fire.
