Square Enix revealed a new trailer forFinal Fantasy XVIon the June 30, 2025 State of Play, revealing some first gameplay details on this mainline entry, which will give the series' iconic summons a much bigger narrative role than usual, with frenetic action gameplay.

Naoki Yoshida introduced the secondFinal Fantasy XVItrailer mentioning we’ve been waiting for a long time, and how our world is facing many turmoils, echoing some of the trailer’s opening narration. Naoki Yoshida mentioned that the next trailer forFinal Fantasy XVIwas complete back in Mayso many fans were expecting to see it today. Lastly, Yoshida and his team will also start giving out many more interviews regardingFFXVI.

Final Fantasy XVI New Trailer Reveals Summer 2023 Release Estimate

TheFinal Fantasy XVItrailer revealed the game’s UI for the first time ever, and itsDevil May Cry V-like combat. Ryota Suzuki, who worked onDevil May Cry 5‘s battle system at Capcom,previously explainedhis role as Battle Director ofFinal Fantasy XVI.The UI seen in the trailer has indications regarding “Precision Dodge” and “Precision Counter”, hinting at the technical aspects of the gameplay.

Kaiju Boss Fights And Versus Fighting

Final Fantasy XVImost notably gives a stronger role to the Summons, with Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, Odin, Garuda, and more fighting it out in impressive Kaiju-looking fights. Moreover, not only Summons battles, but boss fights also seem to be one-on-one duels, similar to a fighting game. you may check it out in the trailer below.

FF16Major Updates Shared Since Its Reveal

Several short updates were shared onFinal Fantasy XVIsince its reveal. YoshiP firsrt shared someFF16story hintsin February 2021. Yoko Taro also had a lengthy discussion with him on the gamein July 2021. The comments regarding the British dub and motion capture were shared on yet another live streamstill in July.Lastly in October 2021 at TGS, YoshiP shared some first details on theFF16Skill Tree system.

Final Fantasy XVIhasbeen in development for at least 4 yearsat Creative Business Unit III, the developers ofFF14(and theDragon Quest Buildersseries). Most of theFinal Fantasy 16development teamwas working from home on the game in 2020, and the scenario had been completed since then.
