The land of Eorzea might soon be expanding to another platform, asFinal Fantasy 14’sDirector has hinted that the game could be coming to theNintendo Switch 2in the future.

As of the time of writing, Final Fantasy 14 is available on Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Notably, Nintendo is absent from this list, even though there are plenty of people in the world who somehow play thegame on a Steam Deck, using their memory of the UI and shortcuts to endure the small text size in portable mode.

The original Nintendo Switch might not have been beefy enough to run Final Fantasy 14, but what about its successor? In an interview withVideo Games Chronicleat Gamescom 2025, Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida teased that the game could be making itsway to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Yoshi-P Wants FF14 & FF16 On Switch 2

Not only does Yoshida want Final Fantasy 14 on the Nintendo Switch 2, he also wants Final Fantasy 16 on the platform. This might finally be possible, due to theSwitch 2’s more powerful hardware.

“For me, it’s just my aim to provide Final Fantasy 14 and 16 to as many players as possible, and I hope that as many players as possible will be able to enjoy those two games.”

Final Fantasy 16 is a natural fit for the Switch 2, assuming the visuals and performance are sufficiently tweaked. The MMO is a bit more of a stretch, especially for people who want to play in portable mode, as the UI in Final Fantasy 14 is so small and packed that it needs a ton of adjustments to make everything legible for a small screen.

Regardless, the Nintendo audience has been deprived of access to Eorzea for too long. The Switch 2 is a Final Fantasy machine, and it’s time to put one of thebest entries in the franchiseon the platform.
