The MCU is gearing up for a big comeback with the Fantastic Four trailer.

One of such apparent easter eggs might just blow a multiversal hole in your brain if it comes true.

Though there have been several versions of the Fantastic Four before, none have been very successful on-screen so far. But ardent fans have loved them all. And the multiverse saga might just make their farthest dreams come true.

“Matt Shakman, you’re the GOAT”: Fans Cannot Stop Raving About an Epic Human Torch Detail in Fantastic Four: First Steps Teaser

Let’s take a deeper dive into one such theory and go on a wild trip in the Fantasticar to explore the possibility of one too many Reed Richards.

Reed Richards studying multiversal travel: The Council of Reeds?

Reed Richards is one of the smartest beings in the Marvel Comic Universe, who even rivals Tony Stark. Before gaining his stretchy powers in a freak space accident, Richards was a world-renowned scientist holding multiple PhDs. TheFantastic Four: First Stepstraileralludes to that, asPedro Pascal’s Reed is shown scribbling on the blackboard, and prepping his team for a manned space mission.

One specific panel points out the possibility of Reed researching multiversal theory, with a drawing of a wormhole. Wormholes have long been theorized as gateways to time travel, dimensional hopping, as well as long-distance universal voyages. Comics have often relied on this concept to explain such storylines, andThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsusing the theory to connect to the MCU might not be too far off from the multiversal theme.

If that is indeed the underlying idea of the upcoming movie, we might get to see multiple versions of Marvel’s first family, much like we have seen in Loki andDeadpool & Wolverine. That makes one of Marvel Comics’ most famous storylines a possibility—The Council of Reeds.

Fans are closely analyzing every detail of the Fantastic Four trailer to uncover hidden Easter eggs.

The Council of Reeds in Marvel Comics is a multiversal team composed of multiple versions of Reed Richards from different universes. Created by Jonathan Hickman in 2009, they put together their advanced technology and intellect to solve multiversal problems too big to tackle on their own. However, that plotline itself opens the doorway to another villain – The Maker.

Who is The Maker?

The objective of The Council of Reeds was to work towards the greater good of the multiverse. However, no idea, as noble as it sounds, is without its flaws. And when it comes to the multiverse, even the tiniest errors can snowball into a mountain of nightmares. That’s exactly what The Maker is, who might just be a wolf in sheep’s clothing among the do-gooders of The Council of Reeds.

The Maker is an alternate version of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic from the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610). Initially a heroic scientist, he becomes the villainous Maker after enduring personal tragedies, going so far as to kill his own family. He then goes on to cause havoc across the multiverse, subjugating hordes of heroes and villains alike in his quest.

Stan Lee: “It wasn’t easy” Creating the X-Men Because of the Fantastic Four

If The Council of Reeds is indeed a part ofThe Fantastic Four: First Steps’ storyline, there’s a good chance The Maker will be a part of it. The Council might have previous iterations of Mr. Fantastic among its ranks, such asIoan Gruffudd,Miles Teller, andJohn Krasinski. And this might give Teller a chance to redeem his version of Reed Richards, who was critically panned in hisFantastic Fourmovie.

Giving Teller’s Reed a villainous makeover as The Maker will not only add another dimension toThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, but also tie in perfectly withAvengers: Doomsday, where we might get to see several versions of our favorite heroes and villains jutting it out against each other. WithRobert Downey Jr.returning as a villain himself, The Maker definitely doesn’t lie out of reach.
